TLDR: JotPsych, a healthtech startup, has successfully raised $5 million in seed funding led by Base10 Partners. This capital will accelerate the development of its AI-powered clinical documentation assistant, aiming to automate administrative tasks for behavioral health practices, including transcribing sessions, preparing clinical notes, and coding visits. The company’s goal is to reduce clinician burnout and improve patient outcomes by allowing providers to focus more on care.
JotPsych, a Washington, D.C.-based healthtech startup, announced on July 29, 2025, that it has secured $5 million in seed funding. The round was spearheaded by San Francisco-based venture capital firm Base10 Partners, known for its investments in automation-focused startups within the healthcare and enterprise SaaS sectors. Additional participation came from various early-stage healthtech investors and angel backers with expertise in digital health infrastructure.
Founded in 2023 by CEO Nathan Peereboom, a former clinical workflow strategist, and CTO Jackson Bierfeldt, a machine learning researcher with prior experience at Google Health, JotPsych, legally registered as SmartScribe Corp, is developing a fully autonomous electronic health record (EHR) platform specifically designed for behavioral health providers. The company’s flagship platform leverages generative AI to significantly reduce the time clinicians spend on documentation and administrative tasks.
JotPsych’s platform is engineered to capture and transcribe session notes, integrate patient intake, automate medical coding and billing, and provide intelligent scheduling—all in real-time. This comprehensive approach aims to improve patient outcomes while simultaneously reducing clinician burnout, a critical issue in the behavioral health sector.
Nathan Peereboom stated in an interview, ‘With behavioral health in crisis and clinicians overwhelmed by paperwork, we saw an opportunity to apply cutting-edge AI to a sector often overlooked by digital innovation. We’re building infrastructure for a future where providers spend more time with patients—not on data entry.’
The newly acquired capital will be strategically utilized to expand JotPsych’s engineering and product teams, accelerate research and development, and refine the platform’s capabilities. Future enhancements are expected in areas such as automated prescriptions and real-time insurance documentation. The startup is also actively exploring partnerships with mid-sized clinic networks and telehealth platforms. TJ Nahigian, General Partner at Base10, will join JotPsych’s board as part of this financing round.

JotPsych differentiates itself by focusing on end-to-end EHR autonomy for behavioral health, rather than simply layering AI tools on top of existing legacy systems. The company’s mission is to eliminate administrative burdens for clinicians, starting with documentation, and eventually automating the entire behavioral health workflow. This purpose-built and deeply personalized AI scribe is designed to understand the unique needs of behavioral health, aiming to transform into the first fully agentic Electronic Health Record (EHR). JotPsych aspires to become the operating system for behavioral health practices, scaling with group practices and expanding its product to cover compliance, analytics, and collaborative care.
