AI Agents Set to Revolutionize Workforce, Freeing Workers from Repetitive Tasks

TLDR: Chinese intelligent automation platform Laiye is spearheading the development of AI agents to create digital workforces, aiming to boost productivity and liberate human workers from mundane tasks. This initiative aligns with a broader trend where AI agents are expected to autonomously handle a significant portion of knowledge work, transforming various industries.

Chinese intelligent automation platform Laiye is making significant strides in building digital workforces powered by advanced artificial intelligence agents. This strategic move is designed to enhance overall productivity, free human employees from repetitive and mechanical tasks, and accelerate enterprises’ digital transformation efforts. Wang Guanchun, Chairman and CEO of Laiye, emphasized, ‘We’re entering a new era where AI agents will take on real work at scale,’ highlighting the immense potential for AI agent applications across diverse sectors, including manufacturing.

Wang projects a future where all Fortune 500 companies will employ more digital workers than human workers, with an estimated 90 percent of knowledge work being executed autonomously by AI agents. He believes this shift will usher in an ‘AI agent economy.’ AI agents, which have seen explosive growth and global attention this year, are defined as systems capable of autonomously performing tasks by designing workflows and utilizing available tools. They are more sophisticated than traditional chatbots, as they not only offer suggestions but also execute complex actions across various industries, delivering tangible results.

Laiye’s journey in digital employees predates the generative AI boom, with previous solutions built on chatbots, robotic process automation (RPA), and document automation. Wang noted that the enhanced inference and planning capabilities of large language models have transformed AI agents into the core of new digital workers. The company prioritizes product innovation and research and development, with a core value proposition to empower every employee with AI agents, thereby boosting productivity and creativity, and fostering a future-ready workforce for businesses. Their work execution platform is designed to support governments and enterprises in this transition.

According to Laiye, AI-powered digital workers will save individuals from repetitive tasks, acting as supplements to human capabilities. For organizations, the integration of digital and human employees is expected to invigorate and innovate business processes, optimizing workflows. Global consultancy Gartner predicts that by 2028, at least 15 percent of daily work decisions will be made autonomously through agentic AI, further underscoring the technology’s transformative potential. Gartner has also recognized agentic AI as a top strategic technology trend for 2025.
