The ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025 (AAIMS25) is set to take place from August 12-13, 2025, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur. This landmark event, organized by the Ministry of Digital, marks Malaysia’s central role in ASEAN’s digital transformation efforts. The summit will convene global AI visionaries, ASEAN leaders, and industry pioneers with the shared goal of shaping a future-ready AI ecosystem that is inclusive, ethical, and sustainable.

AAIMS25 is designed as a pivotal platform for high-level discourse, knowledge exchange, and cross-sector collaboration. Its core objectives include driving responsible AI development, fostering regional innovation, and ensuring inclusive, ethical, and sustainable digital transformation across ASEAN nations. The timing of the summit is crucial, as ASEAN countries are actively working to leverage AI for economic growth, digital sovereignty, and social impact.

Malaysia is positioning itself as a responsible AI leader within the region, with its strategies firmly rooted in principles of trust, inclusion, and innovation. Building upon previous national AI dialogues, the summit will highlight critical priorities such as empowering citizens (‘rakyat’), unlocking business innovation, elevating youth, strengthening the regional AI ecosystem, and driving policy readiness.

YB Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, emphasized the foundational principles of Malaysia’s AI strategy, stating, “Data and trust must serve as the foundation of our AI ecosystem. We are shaping inclusive strategies that empower citizens, drive business innovation, and prepare our youth to lead in the AI economy. Through regional collaboration, agile policies and ethical governance, we aim to position Malaysia as a responsible AI leader in ASEAN and beyond. AAIMS25 is not just about adopting AI; it’s about ensuring AI works for everyone – building confidence, fostering innovation, and creating opportunities for all layers of society.”

The summit also aligns with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s vision for a human-centric, inclusive Malaysia, underscoring the nation’s commitment to defining ASEAN’s voice in the global AI conversation. Day one of AAIMS25 will focus on ASEAN’s AI strategy, with a particular emphasis on Malaysia’s leadership in digital ecosystems, AI policy, and real-world applications across sectors like healthcare, agriculture, education, and smart cities. Day two will broaden the scope to international partnerships and the scaling of inclusive and sustainable AI solutions throughout the ASEAN region, covering key themes such as AI ethics, governance frameworks, youth empowerment, and talent development.

Beyond the main summit, Kuala Lumpur will transform into a dynamic hub of AI innovation during ‘KL AI Takeover Week’ (August 8-14, 2025). This citywide initiative will feature a diverse array of AI-focused events and activities hosted by global tech leaders, local startups, and academic institutions, including highlights like the AI Builder Hub, AI Code Fest, and various AI Ecosystem Events.
