BigBear.ai Exceeds Revenue Expectations in Q3 2025, Bolstered by $250 Million Generative AI Acquisition

TLDR: BigBear.ai announced its third-quarter 2025 financial results, reporting revenue of $33.1 million, which surpassed analyst estimates despite a year-over-year decline. The company also revealed a strategic acquisition of Ask Sage, a generative AI platform for defense and national security, valued at $250 million. This acquisition is expected to significantly boost BigBear.ai’s annual recurring revenue and market presence in the AI-driven defense sector, leading to a substantial surge in its stock price.

BigBear.ai Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: BBAI), a prominent provider of AI-powered decision intelligence solutions, has reported its financial outcomes for the third quarter of 2025, alongside a significant strategic move to acquire Ask Sage, a leading generative AI platform. The announcements, made on November 11, 2025, spurred a notable increase in the company’s stock value, with shares surging between 12% and 23% in pre-market and after-hours trading.

For the third quarter of 2025, BigBear.ai posted revenues of $33.1 million. This figure exceeded analyst expectations of $31.82 million, demonstrating resilience despite a 20% year-over-year decrease from $41.5 million in the same period last year. The decline in revenue was primarily attributed to reduced activity on certain U.S. Army programs. However, the company showcased improved operational efficiency, narrowing its GAAP loss per share to $0.03, a significant improvement from the consensus estimate of a $0.07 loss and last year’s $0.06 loss per share. The adjusted EBITDA saw a substantial increase, reaching $9.4 million compared to $0.9 million in the prior-year quarter, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of 28.4%.

In a pivotal strategic development, BigBear.ai announced a definitive agreement to acquire Ask Sage for $250 million. Ask Sage is recognized for its rapidly growing generative AI platform, specifically designed for secure deployment across defense, national security, and other highly regulated sectors. This acquisition is projected to add approximately $25 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) for 2025. Ask Sage currently serves a vast user base, supporting over 100,000 users across 16,000 government teams and hundreds of commercial entities, which will substantially expand BigBear.ai’s market footprint and capabilities.

The integration of Ask Sage is expected to significantly strengthen BigBear.ai’s position in the defense AI market, enhancing its portfolio with secure, government-grade generative AI capabilities. This move is anticipated to broaden the company’s total addressable market and deepen its reach into critical sectors such as defense, border security, and national intelligence systems. The transaction is slated to close by late 2025 or early 2026.

Looking ahead, BigBear.ai maintained its full-year 2025 revenue guidance, projecting figures between $125 million and $140 million, with a midpoint of $132.5 million. The company expressed optimism regarding future growth opportunities, particularly in border security and defense, anticipating new contracts and accelerated spending. The robust cash balance of $456.6 million, significantly up from $50.1 million at the end of 2024, and a reduced long-term debt of $104.9 million, underscore the company’s strong financial health and capacity for strategic investments.
