The two-day intensive program, held on November 6-7, 2025, at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), empowered over 300 local university students with crucial Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills and fostered tech innovation. The initiative, endorsed by Malaysia’s Ministry of Digital and Ministry of Higher Education, aims to contribute to the nation’s digital future and its goal of becoming an AI Nation by 2030.

KUALA LUMPUR – Global digital travel platform Agoda has marked a significant milestone by expanding its acclaimed social impact initiative, ‘Agoda Tech Camp Day,’ to Malaysia for the first time. This landmark event, held on November 6-7, 2025, at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia’s largest higher education institution, successfully engaged over 300 students in a two-day intensive program designed to enhance future-ready skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other vital digital disciplines.

The program’s curriculum was meticulously crafted to provide practical, hands-on experience, showcasing Agoda’s innovative applications of AI. Students were guided on how to leverage AI in their academic pursuits and gained invaluable hands-on experience by creating their own AI-powered search engines. The interactive sessions were led by a dedicated team of over 20 Agoda software engineers, who served as mentors, sharing their industry insights and real-world expertise with the aspiring tech talent. All participants were awarded official certificates of attendance issued by Agoda, recognizing their engagement and newly acquired skills.

Since its inception in May 2023, the Agoda Tech Camp Day has made a substantial impact, reaching more than 2,500 university and high school students across Thailand. Previous editions of the program in Thailand focused on a range of in-demand technical skills, including modern front-end development, user-centered design, innovative tooling, and foundational generative AI applications. The initiative’s success in Thailand garnered strong support from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and was notably honored with the U.S. Ambassador’s Special Award at the 2025 American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) Thailand Corporate Social Impact Awards.

The expansion into Malaysia has received significant endorsement from key government bodies, including Malaysia’s Ministry of Digital and Ministry of Higher Education. The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished leaders, underscoring the national importance of the initiative.

Prashant Singh, Vice President of Engineering, Information Technology, Agoda, expressed his enthusiasm for the program’s launch in Malaysia, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce Agoda Tech Camp Day to Malaysia and thank UiTM and our government partners for their collaboration. By sharing Agoda’s innovation mindset and technical skills, we aim to empower Malaysia’s next generation of tech talent to contribute to the nation’s digital future.”

Echoing this sentiment, The Honorable Michelle Ng Mei Sze, Political Secretary to the Digital Minister, commended Agoda’s commitment: “I commend Agoda’s investment in nurturing Malaysia’s future AI talent. Since gaining Malaysia Digital Status in 2013, Agoda has continually contributed to the country’s digital economy. The Tech Camp Day initiative aligns with the Ministry’s goal to transform Malaysia into an AI Nation by 2030.”

Prof. Ts. Dr. Shafinar Haji Ismail from UiTM also highlighted the program’s alignment with the university’s mission, adding, “Agoda’s dedication to developing local talent and providing real-world technology experience resonates deeply with UiTM’s mission to advance knowledge, empower communities, and foster innovation for national progress.”
