TLDR: New research from Slack’s Workforce Index indicates a dramatic 233% increase in daily AI usage among desk workers over the past six months. The study, encompassing 5,000 global workers, highlights that daily AI users report significantly higher productivity, improved focus, and greater job satisfaction, alongside enhanced skill development and workplace connection.
San Francisco, CA – A groundbreaking report from Slack’s latest Workforce Index reveals a monumental shift in workplace dynamics, with daily Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage among desk workers skyrocketing by an astounding 233% in just six months, from November 2024 to April 2025. The comprehensive survey of over 5,000 global desk workers, including more than 800 from the UK, underscores AI’s emergence as a critical competitive advantage and a catalyst for enhanced employee experience.
The research indicates that AI adoption has officially gone mainstream, with 60% of desk workers now utilizing AI tools, and 42% relying on them at least weekly. The most significant gains are observed among daily AI users, who report a 64% higher likelihood of very good productivity, 58% better focus, and an impressive 81% greater job satisfaction compared to their non-AI-using counterparts. In the United Kingdom, these benefits are even more pronounced, with daily AI users reporting an 82% increase in productivity and a 106% boost in job satisfaction.
Beyond mere automation, workers are leveraging AI to ‘level up’ their capabilities. A striking 96% of AI users have employed the technology to perform tasks they previously lacked the skills to accomplish. Furthermore, workers are 154% more likely to turn to AI agents to help them perform tasks better and more creatively, rather than simply offloading work. The study also notes the growing traction of AI agents, with 40% of desk workers having used an AI agent-powered chatbot and 23% having assigned tasks to an agent for completion. Daily users of AI agents are more than twice as likely to express high trust in AI across critical areas such as data protection, accuracy, and decision-making.
Denise Dresser, CEO of Slack, commented on the findings, stating, “The surge in AI adoption is fundamentally reshaping the workplace. As workers embrace AI with growing trust and confidence, businesses gain a clear opportunity to unlock greater productivity and innovation, while workers grow more confident and fulfilled.” Lucas Puente, VP of Research at Slack, added, “When it comes to workers and AI, the data shows us that seeing is believing. As workers actually use and experiment with AI agents, their trust and enthusiasm in this technology grows – and we see them leveraging agents to unlock new skills and opportunities in their everyday work.”

Contrary to concerns about diminished human connection, the research suggests AI can foster greater collaboration. Daily AI users are 246% more likely to feel more connected to colleagues and report a 62% higher sense of belonging at work. This includes 34% of Gen Z workers who feel AI has made them more connected, with 29% reporting increased engagement. The findings highlight that AI is not just a tool for efficiency but a powerful enabler for skill development, creativity, and a more connected, satisfying work environment.
