TLDR: Workday advocates for a human-centered approach to management as AI agents become more prevalent in the workplace, emphasizing transparency and human empowerment. New global research reveals that while 75% of employees are comfortable collaborating with AI, only 30% are comfortable being managed by it. This stance is further solidified by Workday’s recent acquisition of Paradox, an AI-powered candidate experience agent, aimed at enhancing talent acquisition while maintaining a focus on human experience.
Workday, a leading enterprise human resources and finance cloud platform, is actively promoting a human-centered approach to management as artificial intelligence (AI) agents increasingly integrate into the workplace. This advocacy comes alongside the release of new global research and a strategic acquisition, underscoring the company’s commitment to a balanced human-AI collaboration.
According to Workday’s global research, ‘AI Agents Are Here—But Don’t Call Them Boss,’ published on August 12, 2025, a significant 75% of workers are comfortable teaming up with AI agents. However, a stark contrast emerges when it comes to management, with only 30% expressing comfort with an AI agent managing them. The study, which surveyed 2,950 full-time decision-makers and software implementation leaders across North America, APAC, and EMEA in May and June 2025, highlights a critical challenge for businesses: how to leverage AI’s power without diminishing the human element.
Kathy Pham, vice president of AI at Workday, emphasized this balance, stating, “We’re entering a new era of work where AI can be an incredible partner, and a complement to human judgement, leadership, and empathy. Building trust means being intentional in how AI is used and keeping people at the center of every decision.” The research further indicates that while 82% of organizations are expanding their use of AI agents, employees are drawing clear boundaries regarding their willingness to work with AI. A mere 24% are comfortable with AI agents operating in the background without human knowledge, stressing the importance of transparency.
Employee concerns extend beyond management, with nearly 90% believing AI agents will boost productivity. Yet, many also worry about increased pressure (48%), a decline in critical thinking (48%), and reduced human interaction (36%). Workday’s findings suggest that trust in AI agents dramatically increases with direct experience, jumping from 36% among those exploring AI to 95% among those further along in adoption. The report advocates for distinct roles, positioning AI as a co-pilot rather than a commander. Trust is highest for tasks like IT support and skills development, but significantly lower for sensitive areas such as hiring, finance, and legal matters, necessitating human oversight.
In the finance sector, facing a shortage of CPAs and professionals, 76% of finance workers believe AI agents will help bridge this gap, with only 12% concerned about job displacement. Top applications for AI agents in finance include forecasting and budgeting (32%), financial reporting (32%), and fraud detection (30%).
Further solidifying its commitment to AI-powered workforce solutions, Workday announced on August 22, 2025, a definitive agreement to acquire Paradox. Paradox is a candidate experience agent that utilizes conversational AI to streamline the job application process, particularly for high-volume frontline industries. This acquisition will enable Workday to offer an AI-powered talent acquisition suite, providing instant responses, self-scheduling capabilities, and 24/7 candidate support. Gerrit Kazmaier, president of Product & Technology at Workday, commented on the acquisition, “Hiring is one of the most critical moments in the employee experience, yet too often it’s slowed down by outdated processes and disconnected tools. By bringing Paradox’s candidate experience AI agent into Workday, we’re giving organizations a smarter, faster, and more engaging way to connect with candidates.”
