Kumasi, Ghana – We Are Africa Mission (WIAM) has officially inaugurated its groundbreaking ‘AI in Schools Initiative,’ a pioneering national endeavor set to embed Artificial Intelligence (AI) education into Ghana’s educational framework. The initiative, which commenced with a pilot program in select schools within Kumasi on September 7, 2025, is designed to furnish students with essential 21st-century digital competencies, thereby preparing them for the evolving demands of a technology-driven global workforce.
Over the forthcoming three years, WIAM has outlined an ambitious strategy to expand the program nationwide, aiming to transform conventional classrooms into dynamic, AI-powered learning environments. Metoh Mbah Joachim Jr., Co-founder and CEO of WIAM, underscored the critical importance of AI literacy in shaping Ghana’s future trajectory. “Artificial Intelligence is no longer a luxury – it is the backbone of modern education, innovation, and economic growth,” stated Mr. Joachim Jr. in a press statement. He further articulated the initiative’s transformative potential, adding, “With this initiative, Ghana can leapfrog into the future, giving every child the tools to compete globally while solving local challenges.”
WIAM has identified four pivotal areas where the ‘AI in Schools Initiative’ is projected to yield substantial impact: future workforce preparedness, fostering economic transformation, driving national development, and establishing Ghana’s global leadership in the digital sphere. The successful implementation of this initiative is a collaborative effort, involving key partnerships with the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and a network of local technology experts. Furthermore, WIAM is actively engaging with universities, private sector innovators, and various development partners to bolster the program’s reach and effectiveness.

The initial pilot classrooms in Kumasi are slated to be operational within the next three months. These state-of-the-art learning spaces will be outfitted with advanced AI-powered educational tools, staffed by specially trained teachers, and feature fully equipped digital laboratories. In a move to foster broader engagement and strategic alignment, WIAM is also organizing a national education forum in Accra. This forum will convene prominent government officials, educators, and industry stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for scaling up AI education across the entire country, ensuring a cohesive and impactful national approach.
