TLDR: Vodafone Idea (Vi) unveiled its ‘Vi Protect’ initiative at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, featuring advanced 5G and AI-powered solutions. Key announcements included an AI-based Voice Spam Detection System, an AI-driven Cyber Defence and Incident Response System for network security, and an International Calling Display. These innovations aim to enhance customer safety, combat cyber threats, and protect network infrastructure, leveraging artificial intelligence to deliver real-time protection and improved response capabilities.

NEW DELHI – Vodafone Idea (Vi) made significant strides in telecommunications security and innovation at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, unveiling a suite of advanced 5G and AI-powered solutions under its ‘Vi Protect’ initiative. The company’s presentations highlighted its commitment to enhancing customer safety and fortifying its network infrastructure against evolving digital threats.

Central to Vi’s showcase was the introduction of an AI-based Voice Spam Detection System. This innovative solution is designed to identify and flag spam and fraudulent calls in real-time, directly within Vi’s network. Unlike third-party caller ID applications, this system integrates advanced AI models, web crawlers, and user feedback to detect suspicious numbers before they reach the customer. When a potentially fraudulent call is received, the user’s phone screen will display ‘Suspected Spam,’ empowering them to make an informed decision about answering. This network-level integration offers superior accuracy and enhanced privacy protection for millions of users. The company also offers spam SMS filtering and an International Calling Display, a first-of-its-kind feature in India, to help users easily recognize genuine international calls.

Further bolstering its security posture, Vi introduced an upgraded AI-powered Cyber Defence and Incident Response System. This sophisticated system is engineered to safeguard Vi’s core network and enterprise operations by leveraging agentic and generative AI models. It boasts the capability to detect, analyze, and neutralize cyber threats within an hour, drastically reducing response times while significantly improving accuracy and minimizing false positives. The system follows a rigorous five-step defense mechanism: Anomaly Detection, Contextualisation and Categorisation, Interface Engine Agent, Suggestive Intelligence, and Human Validation. Vi reported that its security systems have already successfully flagged over 600 million spam and scam calls and messages, protecting countless customers from fraud and data theft.

Abhijit Kishore, CEO of Vi, emphasized the broader impact of these technological advancements. “At Vi, we believe advanced connectivity has become essential for daily life, economic growth, and national progress. The 5G and AI solutions we are showcasing highlight how technology can create real impact, from equipping India with skills at scale to protecting citizens from cyber fraud, and empowering MSMEs and enterprises to digitize and transform,” Kishore stated. Vi also indicated plans to launch a real-time URL protection solution in the near future, aimed at scanning and blocking suspicious links to prevent phishing and malware attacks.
