US Hyperscale Data Center Market Set for Explosive Growth to $290 Billion by 2030, Fueled by AI and Cloud Demand

TLDR: The U.S. hyperscale data center market is projected to reach a staggering $290 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 7.47% from 2024. This significant expansion is primarily driven by the escalating demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing services, leading to massive investments in infrastructure, advanced cooling solutions, and gigawatt-scale campuses.

The United States hyperscale data center market is on a trajectory for substantial growth, with projections indicating it will hit $290 billion by 2030. This robust expansion represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.47% from 2024 to 2030, according to a recent report by ResearchAndMarkets.com. The primary catalysts for this boom are the insatiable demands of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads.

Data centers across the U.S. are rapidly scaling their server infrastructure to accommodate this explosive growth. Hyperscale operators and enterprises are increasingly deploying energy-efficient, high-density servers to maximize performance while managing power consumption. A key trend emerging is the widespread adoption of liquid cooling solutions, which offer superior efficiency, sustainability, and performance compared to traditional air-based systems, especially for intense AI/ML workloads.

Significant investments underscore this market surge. In May 2025, Oracle made headlines with a $40 billion investment to acquire approximately 400,000 Nvidia GB200 GPUs for OpenAI’s Stargate data center campus in Abilene, Texas. Similarly, Applied Digital announced a $3 billion investment in August 2025 to develop Polaris Forge 2, a 280MW AI and HPC-focused data center campus in Harwood, North Dakota, featuring liquid cooling technology and a strategic shift from cryptomining to AI infrastructure. The U.S. data center market saw AI contributing over 50% of its growth in 2024, with the U.S. Census Bureau noting that while only 3.8% of businesses currently utilize AI for production, this percentage is expected to skyrocket in the next five years.

Geographically, key hyperscale markets such as Northern Virginia, Dallas, and Silicon Valley continue to see demand for data center capacity far outpace available supply, driving up land acquisition costs. Other regions gaining momentum include Georgia (Atlanta, Lithia Springs, Douglasville) and Arizona (Phoenix, Mesa, Goodyear, Chandler), due to better power availability, lower disaster risks, and cost efficiency. Texas, particularly cities like Dallas, Austin, and Houston, is also attracting significant hyperscale self-built and colocation investments.

The vendor landscape is dominated by prominent operators including Apple, AWS, Aligned Data Centers, CloudHQ, Digital Realty, Equinix, Google, Meta, Microsoft, STACK Infrastructure, and Vantage Data Centers. Hyperscale giants like Meta (Facebook), Google, Microsoft, AWS, and Apple collectively contribute over 40% of the total investments in the market. Competition among these operators for land, power, and capacity in colocation facilities is at an all-time high, with new entrants and even former Bitcoin companies pivoting to support AI workload deployment. The market is also witnessing a shift towards gigawatt-scale hyperscale campuses, with some operators exploring nuclear power as a low-carbon energy source to meet the massive power demands.
