Udacity Unveils Affordable, Accredited Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence Program

TLDR: Udacity, in partnership with Woolf, has launched a new Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence program designed to be radically affordable and accessible. The online, self-paced program can be completed for under $5,000, a significant reduction compared to traditional master’s degrees, and aims to equip professionals with in-demand AI skills.

Udacity, a prominent online education platform, has announced the launch of a fully accredited Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) degree program, developed in collaboration with Woolf, a global collegiate higher education institution. This initiative, unveiled on October 15, 2025, aims to democratize access to advanced AI education by offering a significantly lower-cost and more flexible pathway for professionals and career changers.

The program is designed to be ‘radically affordable,’ with an estimated total cost of less than $5,000, and potentially as low as $3,500. This stands in stark contrast to traditional master’s programs in AI, which can often exceed $60,000 annually, with top institutions like Carnegie Mellon, Duke, and Northwestern averaging around $64,154 in tuition. The offering includes a $199 application fee and a monthly Udacity subscription fee, allowing students to manage costs effectively.

Students will engage with Udacity’s signature project-based curriculum, which requires the completion of seven core ‘nanodegree’ programs. These include specialized areas such as Agentic AI, Generative AI, Data Analyst, and AI Programming with Python. In addition to the core curriculum, students must complete 750 hours of electives, with options like AI for Healthcare and Self-Driving Car Engineer. The entire program is estimated to require approximately 2,250 study hours, typically completed within 18 to 24 months.

Kai Roemmelt, Udacity CEO, emphasized the program’s mission: “We’ve been at the forefront of AI education since the beginning, training tens of thousands of professionals who are now driving AI initiatives at companies worldwide. This program proves you can break down the traditional barriers to higher education while maintaining academic rigor and delivering real career impact. It’s about making opportunity accessible to everyone with the talent and drive to succeed in AI.” Jared Molton, Udacity’s VP of Consumer, noted that Udacity’s research revealed 28% of their nanodegree graduates pursued further academic programs, highlighting a clear demand for accredited advanced degrees.

The demand for AI skills is rapidly escalating. A July 2025 report from Glassdoor indicated a 53% year-over-year increase in AI job postings, with these roles offering significantly higher average base salaries of around $121,000, compared to $64,000 for non-AI positions. Furthermore, a June 2025 study from National University found that over three-quarters of AI job openings prefer candidates with a Master’s degree. This new program directly addresses these market needs by providing a career-ready curriculum focused on practical, in-demand AI skills.

The Master of Science in AI degree is fully accredited by Woolf, a recognized leader in higher education innovation, and its European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits are transferable across more than 60 countries, including the U.S., Canada, Australia, and many European nations. This global recognition ensures that graduates receive academic credentials comparable to those from traditional institutions. The program is also a continuation of Accenture’s $1 billion investment in LearnVantage, a comprehensive learning and training service aimed at building essential skills for the AI economy, with Udacity playing a pivotal role since its acquisition by Accenture.
