The UC Davis College of Engineering successfully launched its first-ever AI Innovation Showcase and Prem Jain Symposium on October 16, 2025. The event served as a pivotal gathering for over 100 participants, including faculty, students, alumni, and key industry partners, all focused on the future of artificial intelligence.
The showcase provided a platform for presenting groundbreaking AI research, emerging startups, and innovative programs. A central theme throughout the symposium was the indispensable need for collaboration between academic institutions and industry to accelerate the development and application of AI technologies.
Raissa D’Souza, Associate Dean of Research for the college and founding director of the UC Davis AI Center in Engineering, underscored the transformative period AI is currently experiencing. “Generative AI has ushered in a new era of AI,” D’Souza stated. “This showcase creates an opportunity to come together with industry to learn and innovate and help UC Davis reach its potential of being a true powerhouse in AI research and technology for the betterment of humanity and the planet.”
Prem Jain, a distinguished UC Davis engineering alum and co-founder of Pensando Systems, delivered a compelling address. He articulated a bold vision for UC Davis, positioning it as a global leader in AI research and innovation. Jain urged attendees to embrace ambition, commit investment, and take leadership roles in shaping the AI landscape.
