This high-level engagement on Saturday, September 28, 2025, closely followed a prestigious ceremony on September 26, 2025, where Sam Altman was awarded the inaugural honorary doctorate from the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in Abu Dhabi. The conferral ceremony was witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and attended by various ministers, dignitaries, and university leadership.

During the honorary doctorate ceremony, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan congratulated Altman, stating that the recognition ‘reflects a career of groundbreaking contributions that align with the UAE’s vision for leadership in artificial intelligence and innovation.’ He further emphasized the nation’s dedication to ‘building a comprehensive AI ecosystem designed to serve humanity and drive inclusive growth.’
