Türkiye Sees Significant Surge in AI Adoption, One in Five Individuals Now Using Generative Tools

TLDR: Türkiye is experiencing a rapid increase in artificial intelligence adoption, with official statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) for 2025 revealing that 19.2% of individuals now utilize generative AI tools. Enterprise AI adoption has also climbed to 7.5%, a substantial rise from 2.7% in 2021, driven primarily by larger companies and those in the information, communication, and finance sectors. The report highlights varying usage patterns based on age, education, and purpose, while also identifying key barriers to further enterprise adoption such as lack of expertise and high costs.

Türkiye is witnessing a significant and accelerating embrace of artificial intelligence, as detailed in the inaugural ‘Artificial Intelligence Statistics, 2025’ bulletin released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The report underscores a notable integration of AI technologies into both daily life and business operations across the nation.

According to TurkStat’s findings, nearly one in five individuals in Türkiye, specifically 19.2%, reported using generative AI tools in 2025. This marks a substantial increase, reflecting the growing accessibility and integration of AI into personal routines. The data indicates minimal gender disparity in individual AI usage, with 19.4% of men and 18.8% of women reporting engagement with these tools.

Age emerges as a significant determinant of AI adoption among individuals. The highest usage rates are concentrated among younger demographics, with 39.4% of those aged 16-24 and 30% of the 25-34 age group utilizing AI. This trend shows a steady decline with increasing age, dropping to 15.5% for individuals aged 35-44 and reaching its lowest point in the 65-74 age bracket.

Education also plays a crucial role in AI adoption. Individuals with higher education demonstrate the highest usage, at 36.1%. This contrasts with 22.8% among high school or vocational school graduates, 17.2% for primary or middle school graduates, and a mere 2.2% for primary school graduates. Interestingly, men with minimal schooling showed higher AI usage than women in the same category, while women surpassed men in AI adoption among those with higher education levels.

The purposes for which individuals employ AI vary. A dominant 79.7% of AI users leverage it for personal reasons, followed by 33.8% for professional purposes, and 31.4% for formal education. Women were particularly active in using AI for educational pursuits, with 36.6% compared to 26.7% of men.

For the segment of the population not currently using AI, TurkStat identified a lack of perceived need as the primary deterrent, cited by 63.3%. Other reasons included unfamiliarity with AI usage (18.7%), unawareness of AI technologies (12.4%), and concerns regarding privacy or security (5.5%).

On the enterprise front, AI adoption is also on a clear upward trajectory. In 2025, 7.5% of enterprises in Türkiye reported using some form of AI technology, a significant leap from 2.7% in 2021. Enterprise size is a key factor, with larger companies demonstrating higher adoption rates: 24.1% for enterprises with 250 or more employees, 9.6% for those with 50-249 employees, and 6.6% for businesses with 10-49 employees.

Certain economic sectors are leading the charge in enterprise AI integration. The information and communication sector stands out with a 47.1% adoption rate, followed by finance and insurance enterprises at 21.1%, and businesses involved in the repair of computers and communication equipment at 15.2%.

AI applications within enterprises are diverse. The most common use is in marketing and sales (46.5%), followed closely by production or service processes (41.1%), research and development or innovation activities (41%), and business processes and management (40%). Other applications include accounting or financial management (33.7%), ICT security (22.6%), and logistics (13.6%).
