True Corporation Unveils Thailand’s First Responsible AI Roadmap

TLDR: True Corporation has launched a pioneering Responsible AI (RAI) Maturity Roadmap in Thailand, developed in collaboration with the GSMA. This initiative aims to ensure ethical, safe, and sustainable deployment of AI across its operations, aligning with global best practices and aiming to boost AI-driven revenue in digital services to 30% by 2027.

True Corporation, Thailand’s leading telecom-tech company, has announced the adoption of the Responsible AI (RAI) Maturity Roadmap, marking a significant first for the nation in establishing ethical guidelines for artificial intelligence deployment. Launched on September 24, 2024, this roadmap is a global platform developed in partnership with the GSMA, designed to ensure AI usage adheres to high standards of safety, equity, and sustainability.

The initiative comes as McKinsey estimates the expanded use of AI within the telecoms sector could generate up to US$680 billion (THB 22.7 trillion) over the next 15-20 years. True Corporation is among 19 global telecoms organizations committing to this common, ethical approach to AI, signifying a sector-wide commitment to responsible AI integration.

The RAI Maturity Roadmap provides telecoms organizations with tools and assessments to evaluate their current AI maturity against their strategic ambitions. It offers clear guidance and measurement tools to help achieve these goals while upholding industry-wide best practices. This framework integrates existing global regulations and recommendations from international bodies such as the OECD and UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of AI.

Manat Manavutiveth, CEO of True Corporation Plc., emphasized the company’s dedication to harnessing AI’s transformative potential responsibly. “By adopting the GSMA’s Responsible AI Roadmap, we commit to upholding the highest international standards, ensuring AI’s benefits are realized safely and equitably,” he stated.

Sharad Mehrotra, Deputy CEO of True Corporation Plc., highlighted AI’s role in improving customer experience and operational efficiency across True’s operations. He added that the roadmap, building on True’s commitment to data privacy and security, will prepare the company for future AI opportunities and challenges.

The RAI Maturity Roadmap is built upon five core dimensions: organizational vision, values, and strategic goals; operating model and AI governance; technical controls aligned with regulatory requirements; collaboration with third-party ecosystems; and corporate change management and communication strategies. It also incorporates best-practice principles such as fairness, human agency and oversight, privacy and security, safety and robustness, transparency, accountability, and environmental impact.

Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA, underscored the importance of responsible and transparent AI integration for its effectiveness and sustainability. Julian Gorman, Head of Asia Pacific at GSMA, commended True Corporation’s commitment to innovation and sustainability through this roadmap, which will provide the necessary tools and guidance for effective and ethical AI leverage.
