Tesla Integrates Advanced AI Assistant into Mobile Application

TLDR: Tesla has launched ‘Tesla Assist,’ a new AI-powered support agent within its mobile app, providing users with immediate answers to product-related queries. This move, potentially leveraging xAI’s Grok technology, aims to streamline customer service and create a unified AI support experience across Tesla’s ecosystem.

Tesla has quietly rolled out a new artificial intelligence-powered support tool, dubbed ‘Tesla Assist,’ directly within its mobile application. This strategic enhancement is designed to offer Tesla owners a more efficient and rapid method for obtaining answers to a wide array of product-related questions, thereby reducing the need for traditional customer service channels like phone calls or emails.

The ‘Tesla Assist’ feature is readily accessible to users by navigating to the app’s main menu and tapping on the question mark icon located in the top-right corner. Once activated, users can input queries covering diverse topics, including detailed vehicle specifications, essential maintenance information, and guidance on utilizing various in-app functionalities. For instance, an owner contemplating tire replacement for their Model Y could simply ask ‘Tesla Assist’ for the factory-recommended tire size and brand, receiving an immediate, accurate response. The tool is engineered to handle general support inquiries across Tesla’s entire product ecosystem, serving as a valuable resource for both long-time owners and new buyers.

While Tesla has not officially confirmed the specific AI backend powering ‘Tesla Assist,’ industry observers note the significant timing of this rollout. Just last month, Tesla began integrating Grok, the conversational chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI, into its vehicles via the 2025.26 software update. This in-vehicle integration allows drivers to interact with the AI assistant directly from their car’s infotainment system. The introduction of ‘Tesla Assist’ in the mobile app suggests a broader corporate strategy towards establishing a unified AI support experience that spans all Tesla platforms, from mobile devices to the vehicles themselves. Industry watcher Sawyer Merritt (@SawyerMerritt) was among the first to highlight this new feature, showcasing its functionality.
