Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick Reaffirms Generative AI as ‘Future of Technology,’ Predicts Employment Growth

Zelnick’s current perspective highlights AI’s potential to drive efficiency and productivity across various sectors. He articulated that while generative AI will streamline certain processes, it will enable developers to redirect their focus towards more complex and innovative endeavors, which will likely remain both costly and time-consuming. This viewpoint aligns with his long-held belief that technological advancements historically lead to an increase in employment, productivity, and Gross Domestic Product (GDP), rather than causing job displacement.

However, Zelnick also maintained a pragmatic view regarding AI’s creative capabilities. He emphasized that generative AI, by its nature, is ‘backward-looking,’ relying on existing data sets. True creativity, he argued, is ‘forward-looking’ and originates ‘out of thin air,’ making AI unlikely to be the sole creator of ‘big hits’ in the entertainment industry. He previously stated that workers whose creations are utilized by AI should be appropriately compensated.

Despite these creative limitations, Zelnick sees practical applications for AI within gaming, such as enhancing the complexity and engagement of non-playable characters (NPCs). He also acknowledged the critical concern of intellectual property infringement in the use of AI, suggesting it as one of the primary ‘guardrails’ needed for the technology.
