TLDR: Singapore has launched PathFin.ai, a new national programme aimed at accelerating AI adoption across more than 80 financial and insurance institutions. Led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the initiative focuses on integrating role-specific AI tools, enhancing workforce AI literacy, and establishing clear risk management guidelines to bolster the sector’s competitiveness and efficiency.
SINGAPORE – The financial and insurance sectors in Singapore are set to undergo a significant transformation with the launch of PathFin.ai, a new national programme designed to accelerate the adoption and effective implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Announced on October 9, 2025, by National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat at an award ceremony, the initiative aims to equip over 80 financial institutions with the resources and knowledge to leverage AI for enhanced operational efficiency and competitiveness.
PathFin.ai, spearheaded by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), will foster peer learning and showcase successful AI use cases across diverse functions, including sales and marketing, customer operations, risk management, engineering, and technology. This collaborative approach is expected to significantly reduce the time required for financial institutions to implement AI solutions.
The programme builds on insights from a pilot phase involving 10 prominent financial institutions, such as DBS, HSBC, Manulife, OCBC, and UOB. These institutions served as a test bed to explore the practical applications of AI for specific job roles within the sector.
A key component of PathFin.ai is workforce development. The three major local banks – DBS, UOB, and OCBC – have committed to enhancing the AI literacy of all 35,000 of their employees in Singapore over the next one to two years. Furthermore, MAS will work with industry partners to refine AI risk management guidelines and support workforce preparation through a ‘job transformation map,’ developed in collaboration with McKinsey and Workforce Singapore. This map highlights that over the next five years, tasks involving information collection, matching, and summaries can be automated, allowing employees to focus on higher-value activities such as improving customer experiences, developing new products, and managing complex risks.
Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo underscored the strategic importance of AI in strengthening Singapore’s position as a leading financial hub. She noted that more than 30 financial institutions in Singapore already possess dedicated AI teams, with over 50 AI Centers of Excellence (CoEs) established across various sectors. These CoEs are not only driving innovation locally but also deploying solutions globally.
Minister Teo emphasized the crucial need for employees who possess a deep understanding of business processes, in addition to AI specialists like data scientists and machine learning engineers. This blend of domain expertise and AI proficiency is seen as vital for the sector’s long-term competitiveness.
An example of practical AI application was demonstrated at UBS’s AI & Transformation Factory, where an AI-powered Know-Your-Client (KYC) tool is being developed. This tool is designed to drastically reduce the time spent on background checks for wealth management clients, a process that traditionally could take up to two weeks. Ms. Ruth Hong, product owner of agentic products at UBS, highlighted how such innovations free up employees to engage in more meaningful customer interactions.
