New Zealand-based insurtech firm Simfuni has announced the successful completion of a NZ$3 million capital raise, aimed at accelerating the development of its innovative life insurance administration platform. This latest funding round, spearheaded by Icehouse Ventures with additional contributions from GD1, Ecliptic Capital, Kent Gardner, and other existing investors, elevates Simfuni’s total funding to NZ$5.8 million.

The company plans to strategically deploy the fresh capital towards bolstering its automation and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. This investment is crucial for expanding its regional footprint and further refining its tools for insurers operating across Australia and New Zealand.

David Burnett, General Partner of Ecliptic Venture Capital, commented on the significance of Simfuni’s work, stating, “Simfuni is tackling a multi-billion-dollar problem in the insurance industry with a solution that’s both timely and transformative. Their integration-first approach removes the barriers that have kept insurers from modernising, unlocking enormous value across Australasia and beyond.”

Simfuni’s platform is engineered to efficiently manage both legacy and active policy portfolios. By facilitating the consolidation of older, disparate systems into a unified operating environment, the company aims to significantly reduce operational expenses, streamline compliance with evolving legislation such as CoFI and the Contracts of Insurance Act, and provide insurers with a more transparent and comprehensive view of customer interactions throughout the policy life cycle.
