TLDR: Singapore’s Financial Data Exchange (SGFinDex) continues to empower its citizens by offering a secure, consolidated view of their financial information from various government agencies and financial institutions. Leveraging the national digital identity, SingPass, SGFinDex facilitates more effective and holistic financial planning for individuals.
Singapore has solidified its position as a leader in digital public infrastructure with the ongoing success of the Singapore Financial Data Exchange (SGFinDex). Launched on December 7, 2020, SGFinDex stands as the world’s first public digital infrastructure to utilize a national digital identity (SingPass) and a centrally managed online consent system, enabling individuals to securely access their financial information held across diverse government agencies and financial institutions.
This groundbreaking initiative is a collaborative effort by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the Government Technology Agency (GovTech), Smart Nation Singapore, and a consortium of financial institutions. It aims to provide citizens with a comprehensive and unified view of their financial health, simplifying what was once a cumbersome process of collating data from multiple sources.
SGFinDex allows users to consolidate a wide array of financial data. This includes bank account details such as current, savings, fixed deposits, credit card statements, secured and unsecured loans, unit trusts, and Supplementary Retirement Scheme (SRS) or CPF Investment Scheme (CPFIS) cash balances and investments from participating banks like DBS/POSB, OCBC, and UOB. Furthermore, it integrates insurance policy details, coverage information, and fund values from participating insurers. Crucially, it also pulls government-held data, including CPF account balances (Ordinary, Medisave, Special, and Retirement Accounts), HDB outstanding loan balances and monthly instalments, and yearly assessable income from IRAS Notice of Assessment (NOA).
Security and privacy are paramount to SGFinDex’s design. The platform ensures that all data transmitted is encrypted and can only be decrypted by the financial planning application or website that the user has explicitly authorized. SGFinDex acts purely as a conduit, transmitting data without storing any personal financial information, thereby giving users full control over who sees their data and when. User identity is verified via SingPass each time data is retrieved, reinforcing the security framework.

Its effectiveness in assisting citizens with digital financial management and planning has garnered several accolades, including the IMDA ASEAN Digital Awards (Digital Innovation, Bronze) in 2024, the Inspire Tech Awards for Most Innovative Use of Data for Digital Transformation (Southeast Asia) in 2021, and the Public Sector Transformation Awards (One Public Sector Award) also in 2021.
