Sentient AI Unveils Open AGI Network, Challenging Tech Giants with Collaborative Intelligence

TLDR: AI startup Sentient has launched its open-source Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) network, providing access to 2 million waitlisted users. The platform aims to directly compete with established players like OpenAI and AWS by fostering real-time collaboration among over 40 AI agents, models, and 50 data sources. Cofounders Sandeep Nailwal and Himanshu Tyagi emphasize the network’s ability to drive emergent intelligence through a global developer community and a token-based incentive system.

AI startup Sentient made a significant announcement on Tuesday, September 17, 2025, with the launch of its open-source Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) network. This new platform is now accessible to 2 million waitlisted users, marking a strategic move to directly challenge dominant AI providers such as OpenAI and AWS.

According to Sentient, their open AGI network facilitates real-time collaboration among more than 40 AI agents and models, integrating over 50 diverse data sources. Sandeep Nailwal, cofounder of Sentient, highlighted the geopolitical implications of this launch, stating, “The US-China AI standoff risks locking out the rest of the world. Without a common open base, sovereign models become national silos. Sentient gives India and allied nations the rails to compete, and win, on their own terms.”

The platform’s architecture allows for the integration of ecosystem agents deployed across multiple blockchains. Users can access these agents and data sources via Sentient Chat, the company’s consumer interface. Nailwal described the launch as “a pivotal moment where India proves it can define the AI future — not just follow it.”

Himanshu Tyagi, the other cofounder of San Francisco-based Sentient, elaborated on the network’s innovative approach. “We’re proving that open, composable intelligence can out-innovate any single company,” Tyagi remarked. He added, “When thousands of developers can contribute specialised agents that automatically work together, you get emergent intelligence that no single closed system can match.” This model leverages a global team of developers, contrasting with the finite engineering resources typically found in closed AI labs.

Sentient’s operational model incorporates a token-based incentive system. Developers earn tokens when their agents, models, or data are utilized, while users can stake tokens to support agents they deem most valuable. The company stated, “Unlike traditional pay-per-API models that charge developers without offering ownership or profit-sharing, Sentient rewards contributors with a direct stake in the network’s growth.”

The startup, which raised $85 million in a seed funding round in 2024 from investors including Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, Pantera Capital, and Framework Ventures, claims its network is capable of generating sophisticated outputs. Examples include comprehensive investment reports that integrate pricing, research, and market data in real time. The company further elaborated on the capabilities, stating, “From generating comprehensive financial asset reports to delivering personalised daily news briefings, planning travel, or producing detailed research summaries, Sentient’s spaces demonstrate how agents can be orchestrated into complex, multi-step workflows, going far beyond simple prompt wrapping.”
