Mumbai, India – September 30, 2024 – SAS, a prominent global entity in data and artificial intelligence, has officially announced its involvement in the newly established Coalition for Responsible Evolution of AI (CoRE-AI) in India. This significant collaboration underscores SAS’s commitment to shaping the responsible development, governance, and deployment of AI technologies within the Indian ecosystem.
CoRE-AI is India’s leading multi-stakeholder coalition, bringing together a diverse group of over 35 members. This includes India’s burgeoning AI-first startups, influential think tanks, esteemed research organizations, academic institutions, and key industry players. Hosted by The Dialogue as its secretariat, the coalition is poised to play a crucial role in guiding AI innovation responsibly, ensuring that technological advancements are coupled with robust ethical frameworks.
One of CoRE-AI’s primary objectives is to provide a collaborative platform for stakeholders to address critical aspects of AI governance, skilling initiatives, public awareness, and technical competencies. By fostering cross-sector partnerships, the coalition aims to drive AI innovation while simultaneously mitigating potential risks and ensuring that the benefits of AI are inclusive and widely accessible.
As a participant in CoRE-AI, SAS will leverage its extensive global expertise to contribute significantly to both India’s leadership in AI and the broader global advancement of responsible AI development. Central to this mission is the SAS Data Ethics Practice (DEP), which was founded in 2021. The DEP is led by Reggie Townsend, Vice President of the practice, who also serves on the board of EqualAI, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing unconscious bias in the development and application of AI.
SAS’s involvement is geared towards championing ethical AI practices and constructing AI governance frameworks that are tailored to address India’s unique challenges while remaining aligned with international standards. The company’s vision is to cultivate a future where AI innovation flourishes responsibly. Through active participation in CoRE-AI’s various working groups, SAS is committed to developing governance models that ensure AI serves the greater good of society, thereby solidifying India’s position as a pivotal leader in both the Indian and global AI landscapes.
India has already laid a strong foundation for responsible AI innovation through initiatives such as NITI Aayog’s National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, which identifies key sectors for AI deployment, including healthcare, agriculture, and education.
