Samsung Unveils HBM4 at Tech Fair, Outlines Ambitious Semiconductor Rebound Strategy

TLDR: Samsung Electronics has announced the unveiling of its 12-stack sixth-generation High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM4) at its 2025 Samsung Tech Fair, signaling a pivotal move for its semiconductor market recovery. The company aims to reclaim market leadership, projecting an increase in HBM market share from 17% this year to 30% next year, driven by new HBM products and AI-focused technologies. The internal event, themed ‘REBOOT: DESIGNING WHAT’S NEXT,’ also highlights advancements in AI agents, sustainability, and computing & network.

Samsung Electronics is set to host its premier in-house technology event, the ‘2025 Samsung Tech Fair,’ from October 27 to 31 at the Samsung Semicon Soplex in Yongin, Gyeonggi. Under the slogan ‘REBOOT: DESIGNING WHAT’S NEXT,’ the fair will serve as a platform to showcase the company’s direction in next-generation technology innovation, with a strong emphasis on its semiconductor business rebound. The event, which is exclusive to employees with advance reservations, will feature the latest technologies and unreleased products.

A centerpiece of the fair will be the unveiling of Samsung’s 12-stack sixth-generation High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM4). This advanced memory solution is considered crucial for the company’s semiconductor market recovery in the coming year, with mass production slated to begin within the current year. This move comes as Samsung aims to regain its footing in the HBM market, having reportedly ceded the No. 1 global market share to a rival in the second quarter of this year.

Samsung’s strategy for a rebound includes recent efforts to supply HBM3E to Nvidia, which has created an opportunity for market re-entry. Market research firm Counterpoint Research projects a significant expansion of Samsung’s HBM market share, forecasting an increase from 17% this year to 30% next year. Beyond HBM4, the company also plans to introduce a 200-megapixel image sensor and various AI technologies specifically designed for semiconductors.

The 2025 Samsung Tech Fair is structured around three core themes: artificial intelligence (AI) agents, sustainability, and computing & network. Samsung has substantially expanded its future technology exhibits and established experience zones to allow employees to engage directly with advanced technologies. Key affiliates participating include Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Samsung Electronics DX (device experience) and DS (device solutions) institutional sectors, Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and others.

Further demonstrating its technological prowess, the DX institutional sector will present a 115-inch micro RGB TV. Samsung Research will also articulate its vision for innovation across the Galaxy ecosystem, particularly through an on-device AI agent. The company’s commitment to technological leadership is underscored by its record-high research and development spending, which reached 18 trillion won in the first half of this year. Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has consistently emphasized a technology-centric management philosophy, stating, ‘First, technology; second, technology; third, technology.’
