TLDR: Samsung has launched the Perplexity TV App, the first generative AI-powered application for its televisions. This new app integrates with Samsung’s Vision AI Companion, offering users an advanced AI-driven experience to quickly find information, conduct research, and discover new content directly on their TV screens. The app is available on 2025 Samsung TVs, with plans for 2023 and 2024 models later this year, and includes a complimentary 12-month Perplexity Pro subscription.
Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled the Perplexity TV App, marking a significant stride in integrating generative artificial intelligence into the home entertainment experience. Launched on October 21, 2025, this pioneering application is the first Perplexity AI-powered TV app available on the market, designed to elevate Samsung’s existing Vision AI Companion platform.
The Perplexity TV App leverages Perplexity’s advanced AI-powered answer engine, which is renowned for drawing information from credible sources in real-time. This enables users to accurately answer questions, perform deep research, and receive suggestions for additional questions, fostering a more interactive and engaging consumption of content directly on their largest communal screens.
Dan Glassman, Senior Director & Head of New Business Development for Samsung Electronics, emphasized the strategic importance of this launch. “The first-of-its-kind Perplexity AI-powered app, now available only on Samsung TVs, broadens our Vision AI Platform offering for a more unique and personalized user experience,” said Glassman. “Samsung continually brings innovative and first-to-market experiences to our device owners, and this partnership with Perplexity is the latest that will deliver cutting-edge AI technology, redefining how Samsung owners interact with their TVs.”
Ryan Foutty, VP of Business at Perplexity, echoed this enthusiasm, highlighting the app’s potential to transform user interaction. “Curiosity can strike at any time. Perplexity’s mission is to serve the world’s curiosity by bridging the gap between traditional search and innovative AI-driven interfaces,” Foutty stated. “Samsung is the number one television brand in the world, and we are excited to bring the functionality that Perplexity users know and trust to Samsung’s television screens and device owners around the world.”
This new app is a core component of Samsung’s broader Vision AI Companion experience, which was initially unveiled at IFA 2025 on September 4, 2025, and conceptualized at CES 2025. The Vision AI Companion aims to bring the next evolution of AI-powered displays to Samsung TVs and smart monitors, integrating Samsung’s most advanced AI features into a single, intuitive experience.
Key features of the Vision AI Companion include a smarter Bixby voice assistant, offering natural and conversational interactions powered by generative AI. It can understand context and follow-up questions, providing fluid interactions without the need for commands, menus, or typing. Users can ask their Samsung TV about anything on screen, such as film details, artwork names, or travel destination recommendations, receiving contextualized and visualized answers.
The Vision AI Companion also unifies several AI-powered functionalities, eliminating the need to switch between multiple applications. These include Live Translate for real-time conversation and subtitle translation, Generative Wallpaper for dynamic and personalized visual backgrounds, and AI Picture, AI Upscaling Pro, and Active Voice Amplifier Pro for automatic optimization of image and sound quality. Additionally, it offers an AI Gaming Mode for smoother gameplay and integrates third-party AI apps like Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity for enhanced productivity and information support.
Samsung has committed to providing seven years of free software upgrades through its One UI Tizen platform for the Vision AI Companion, underscoring its long-term investment in consumer experience.
The Perplexity TV App is currently available on all 2025 Samsung TVs. Owners of 2023 and 2024 Samsung TVs can expect to receive the app later this year via an OS upgrade. As an added incentive, Perplexity is offering a free 12-month subscription to Perplexity Pro for all users who scan a QR code within the TV app.
This launch further solidifies Samsung’s commitment to AI innovation, as the company has also partnered with Google to bring Gemini and Microsoft for Copilot AI agents to its devices, expanding its AI ecosystem across a wide range of products.
