Samsung Aims to Expand Galaxy AI to Over 400 Million Devices by End of 2025, Bolstering On-Device Processing and Google Partnership

TLDR: Samsung plans to significantly expand its Galaxy AI platform, targeting over 400 million devices globally by the close of 2025. This ambitious move, doubling its previous target, emphasizes on-device AI processing for enhanced privacy and performance, and leverages a deepened partnership with Google, particularly integrating the Gemini large language model across its diverse product portfolio including smartphones, smartwatches, and foldables.

Samsung Electronics has announced a significant acceleration in its artificial intelligence strategy, aiming to integrate its Galaxy AI platform into more than 400 million devices worldwide by the end of 2025. This ambitious target represents a doubling of its 2024 milestone, which saw Galaxy AI rolled out to over 200 million devices, commencing with the Galaxy S24 series.

The expansion encompasses a wide array of Samsung’s handheld devices, including smartphones, smartwatches, and foldables. A cornerstone of this initiative is the deepened strategic partnership with Google, particularly focusing on the integration and optimization of Google’s Gemini large language model (LLM).

User engagement data underscores the success of Samsung’s AI push. According to company figures, over 70% of Galaxy S25 users actively utilize the built-in AI features co-developed with Google. Among these, Google Gemini has shown remarkable growth, with its usage tripling across the newest Galaxy smartphones. Mindy Brooks, Vice President of Android Consumer Product & Experience at Google, highlighted this collaboration, stating, “Through close collaboration with Samsung, Gemini works seamlessly across its devices and connects with its first-party apps to provide helpful and personalised responses.” She further noted specific optimizations, such as Gemini’s live video capabilities being tailored for the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s front screen camera and Gemini on the Galaxy Watch 8 leveraging context from the user’s phone.

Samsung’s strategy places a strong emphasis on on-device processing, addressing growing concerns around data privacy while ensuring smooth and responsive performance. Dr. Vinesh Sukumar, Qualcomm’s Vice President of Product Management, reinforced this commitment, stating, “As AI becomes more personalised, there’s more information than ever to protect. We believe that trust is the foundation of personalized AI and for us, that trust is earned at the hardware level. Our work with Samsung prioritises secure, on-device intelligence so that users always know where their data is and who controls it.” He added that for Qualcomm, privacy, performance, and personalization are co-equal standards.

The company’s commitment to making AI more inclusive is reflected in its goal to scale Galaxy AI to 400 million devices. Jisun Park, Corporate Executive Vice President & Head of Language AI Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, offered a forward-looking perspective, remarking, “Some see AI as the start of a ‘post smartphone’ era, but we view it differently.”

Key AI features driving user adoption include Circle to Search, which is used by 54% of Galaxy S25 users, and Photo Assist, whose usage has nearly doubled from 13.4% on the Galaxy S24 to 26% on the Galaxy S25. Additionally, Now Brief is now utilized by one in three Galaxy S25 users. A Samsung-commissioned research conducted with Symmetry Research revealed significant shifts in user behavior, with 47% of surveyed individuals now heavily relying on AI daily for tasks like personalized alerts, search enhancements, and voice interaction. Furthermore, 45% indicated they use voice commands as frequently as they type.
