A recent global study, conducted jointly by IDC and NetApp, has underscored the critical role of data readiness and robust infrastructure in unlocking the full potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within enterprises. The annual Enterprise AI maturity study meticulously examined how organizations globally are evolving their approach to AI, with a particular focus on the tangible business impact derived from mature data and infrastructure strategies.
The study’s findings reveal a clear correlation between data maturity and AI success. Organizations identified as ‘AI Masters’ demonstrated significantly superior business outcomes from their AI implementations. Specifically, these leading organizations achieved a notable 24.1% improvement in revenue and a 25.4% increase in cost savings when compared to their less mature counterparts. These impressive results were consistently observed across all measured AI business metrics, indicating a comprehensive positive impact.
The research encompassed insights from over 1,200 global decision-makers across various domains, including enterprise IT, data science, data engineering, and software development, all of whom are actively involved in AI-related projects. IDC’s analysis suggests that while individual AI initiatives might yield short-term gains, the most sustainable and impactful business value is generated through stringent data quality controls and substantial investments in infrastructure development.
In the current AI landscape, the study emphasizes that speed, scale, security, and adaptability are not merely desirable but essential attributes for effectively extracting business value from enterprise AI deployments. The findings strongly advocate that mature data and technology strategies form the fundamental baseline required to scale AI initiatives efficiently and ensure that value creation permeates all functions of a business.
