Robotics AI Innovator FieldAI Secures $405 Million Investment from Bezos, NVIDIA, and Others for Industrial Automation Software

FieldAI, an Irvine, California-based robotics software startup, has announced the successful closure of two consecutive funding rounds, amassing a total of $405 million. This substantial capital injection, disclosed on August 20, 2025, significantly bolsters the company’s mission to advance artificial intelligence software for industrial robots, powering the next era of embodied AI.

The bulk of the funding, a $315 million investment, was led by prominent investors including Jeff Bezos’ private investment office, Bezos Expeditions, along with Prysm and Temasek. Other key participants in these rounds include NVIDIA’s venture capital arm, NVentures, Intel Capital, BHP Ventures, Canaan Partners, and Emerson Collective. Notably, previous investors such as Bill Gates’ Gates Frontier and Samsung also contributed. The latest funding round was reportedly oversubscribed, a testament to the rapid customer adoption and expansion contracts for FieldAI’s general-purpose robotics intelligence platform.

This new investment has propelled FieldAI’s valuation to an impressive $2 billion, a significant leap from its $500 million valuation just last year. The company plans to leverage this fresh capital to accelerate its global growth, support ongoing product development in areas like locomotion and manipulation, and strategically expand its team, with an ambitious goal to double its headcount by the end of the year.

FieldAI is at the forefront of the “general-purpose robotics revolution,” developing what it terms a “single software brain” for machines. This innovative approach centers on “Field Foundation Models” (FFMs), which are described as “physics-first foundation models for embodied intelligence.” Unlike traditional robotics software that often requires extensive customization for each robot type, FieldAI’s FFMs aim to reduce this need, enabling robots to operate across diverse environments and various systems, including quadrupeds, humanoids, wheeled robots, and even passenger-scale vehicles, “out of the box.”

According to FieldAI, its algorithms are more suitable for robotic applications than standard neural networks because they are “intrinsically risk-aware architectures designed from the ground up.” This design philosophy allows robots to “safely and dynamically adapt to new and unexpected conditions without requiring reprogramming,” thereby enabling them to execute complex tasks reliably in unstructured environments. The software also reduces navigation errors by estimating its “confidence” in decisions, allowing customers to set thresholds to prevent risky actions.

FieldAI’s platforms have already been successfully tested and deployed in hundreds of complex real-world industrial environments across Japan, Europe, and the U.S. Their customer base includes major companies in critical sectors such as construction (e.g., monitoring construction sites for blueprint adherence), energy, manufacturing (e.g., inspecting production equipment), urban delivery, and inspection. The company emphasizes that its systems operate autonomously in real-time, with decisions made directly by models at the edge, seamlessly integrating into existing customer workflows.

Founder and CEO Ali Agha highlighted the significance of this moment, stating, “Rather than attempting to shoehorn large language and vision models into robotics — only to address their hallucinations and limitations as an afterthought — we have designed intrinsically risk-aware architectures from the ground up.” He added, “With Field Foundation Models, we are enabling robotic operations to scale seamlessly across diverse environments with varying risk profiles, moving beyond the constraints of traditional solutions.” Agha also noted that the funding is a direct response to increasing customer demand, as industries increasingly turn to automation to address labor shortages, safety risks, and efficiency goals.
