TLDR: AI startup Reka AI has secured $110 million in a new funding round led by Nvidia and Snowflake, tripling its valuation to over $1 billion. The company, founded by former Google and Meta researchers, specializes in efficient large language models and multimodal AI, with Snowflake planning to offer Reka’s models to its customers.
Reka AI, an emerging leader in artificial intelligence, has officially achieved unicorn status following a successful $110 million funding round. The significant investment was spearheaded by tech giants Nvidia and Snowflake, propelling Reka AI’s valuation to over $1 billion, a substantial increase from its previous $300 million valuation in 2023. This funding underscores the intense investor interest in innovative AI firms.
Founded in 2022 by a team of former researchers from Google (Alphabet Inc.) and Meta Platforms Inc., Reka AI has quickly made a name for itself by developing advanced large language models (LLMs) that power generative AI applications. The company prides itself on its ability to create these sophisticated models with remarkable efficiency, distinguishing itself from competitors in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
Among Reka AI’s notable offerings is ‘Reka Flash,’ a cutting-edge multimodal model capable of understanding and processing various data types, including video, images, text, and audio. This comprehensive capability positions Reka AI’s technology as a versatile tool for enterprise adoption.
Despite previous acquisition discussions between Snowflake and Reka AI that ultimately did not materialize, both companies have opted for continued independent collaboration. Dani Yogatama, CEO of Reka AI, confirmed that ‘both companies decided it made sense to move independently,’ while emphasizing ongoing partnership.
Snowflake’s commitment to Reka AI extends beyond investment. Vivek Raghunathan, Vice President of AI Engineering at Snowflake, announced that Snowflake intends to offer Reka AI’s models and tools directly to its customers. Raghunathan lauded Reka AI’s talent, stating, ‘Very few teams in the world have the capability to build what they’ve built. Almost everyone at that level of talent is at OpenAI, Meta or Anthropic. Reka is one of the rare independents — and they’ve proven they can compete.’ This move aligns with Snowflake’s broader AI strategy, which includes plans for a new Silicon Valley ‘AI hub’ and a commitment to invest up to $200 million in early-stage startups through its accelerator and venture capital partners.
