Redwire Launches AI-Powered Acorn 2.0 Platform, DeepSat Partnership to Revolutionize Space Mission Design

TLDR: Redwire Corporation (NYSE: RDW) has unveiled Acorn 2.0, an advanced AI-powered modeling and simulation software aimed at transforming mission development for aerospace and defense clients. This platform, built on a Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA), facilitates rapid simulation and validation of complex space architectures. Initial deployments are underway, notably with Earth observation startup DeepSat, which will leverage Acorn 2.0 and in-orbit AI to optimize its Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) satellite constellation. This strategic move positions Redwire as a key innovator in AI-driven software solutions for future space infrastructure.

Redwire Corporation (NYSE: RDW), a global leader in space and defense technology solutions, has announced the major release of its groundbreaking Acorn 2.0 software product. This advanced AI-powered modeling and simulation platform is set to significantly enhance mission development capabilities for aerospace and defense customers facing increasingly complex challenges in space. The announcement highlights Redwire’s strategic pivot towards high-value software and AI-driven solutions, aiming to expand its role in next-generation aerospace and space infrastructure projects.

Acorn 2.0 is built on a Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) and harnesses the power of agent-based modeling and artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle problems that often exceed the capacity of traditional static modeling tools. Key advantages of the new platform include accelerated and interactive simulation modes, rapid integration and testing for hybrid architectures and heterogeneous agents, and robust offensive/defensive cyber and vulnerability assessments. It also offers a dynamic, interactive, and immersive user experience, making it compatible with existing AI and modeling and simulation tools.

Tom Campbell, President of Redwire Space Missions, emphasized the significance of this release, stating, “Acorn 2.0 represents a significant advancement in modeling and simulation capabilities for aerospace and defense customers that are tackling some of the most complex missions in space. We recognize the challenges of large space-based architectures—from satellite constellations to layered defense systems—require robust domain-specific digital engineering systems and through Acorn 2.0 we are excited to deliver these solutions to our customers.”

Redwire has already commenced Acorn 2.0 software deployments with select customers. A notable partnership involves DeepSat, an Earth observation startup, which has awarded Redwire the first phase of a multi-phase contract. DeepSat will utilize Acorn 2.0 and in-orbit AI to support the architectural design and performance optimization of its planned dual-use Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) satellite constellation. This constellation is designed to combine high revisit rates with in-orbit AI for advanced sensor fusion, enabling resilient, real-time, AI-powered Earth intelligence for critical missions such as vessel detection, energy infrastructure monitoring, and disaster assessment across civil, commercial, and defense sectors.

Nerses Ohanyan, Co-Founder and CEO of DeepSat, commented on the collaboration, stating, “This collaboration accelerates our ability to deliver a new layer of real-time Earth intelligence, built on proven digital engineering. Redwire’s capabilities help reduce investor risk, speed time-to-market, and scale rapidly to meet urgent customer demands.”

While the Acorn 2.0 launch signifies technical progress and strengthens client relationships, its immediate impact on securing new, large contracts to significantly boost Redwire’s book-to-bill ratio is not yet clear. However, this initiative, alongside Redwire’s recent announcement of SpaceMD—a new entity focused on microgravity-driven pharmaceutical applications—underscores the company’s commitment to high-value, diversified markets beyond traditional aerospace and defense.
