TLDR: Players of the tactical shooter ‘Ready Or Not’ are expressing significant frustration and annoyance regarding the game’s unannounced integration of AI-generated assets, leading to widespread community backlash and calls for refunds. The controversy follows previous criticisms concerning censorship in the game.
The tactical first-person shooter ‘Ready Or Not,’ developed by VOID Interactive, is currently facing a wave of criticism from its player base due to the undisclosed use of AI-generated content within the game. This new controversy comes on the heels of previous player discontent over perceived censorship, particularly with the game’s console launch and subsequent PC updates.
Players began noticing unusual assets, especially in in-game posters, shortly after the full release of ‘Ready Or Not’ in December 2023. The issue gained significant traction recently when a Reddit user, Ill-Consideration632, shared an image depicting a character with an excessive number of eyebrows, sparking renewed discussion and outrage within the community. Other players, such as ‘smarterfish500’ and ‘BuildingABap,’ corroborated these observations, noting that many character headshots in areas like ‘Brixley Talent’ appeared to be AI-generated and expressed disappointment that these textures had not been replaced with hand-made ones.
Despite the growing outcry, VOID Interactive has yet to issue an official statement confirming or denying the use of AI-generated assets. This lack of transparency has further fueled player frustration, with some long-time players reportedly requesting refunds. The game, which initially launched in Early Access on Steam in December 2021, garnered praise for its realistic combat and gritty visuals. However, the recent updates and controversies, including the AI content and censorship measures implemented for cross-play compatibility, have led to a significant shift in player sentiment.

Beyond the AI-generated content, the game has also faced criticism regarding its AI behavior, with some players reporting issues with SWAT AI pathfinding and enemy AI becoming overly aggressive or unrealistic in their reactions post-update. While some players defend the AI’s difficulty, others argue for more nuanced and adjustable AI settings to cater to different player preferences.
