The Kayode Alabi Leadership and Career Initiative (KLCI) and SEED Care & Support Foundation are marking a groundbreaking milestone in education with the celebrated impact of Rafiki AI in Nigerian schools. Rafiki AI, recognized as Africa’s pioneering generative AI career advisor and counselor, offers 24/7 support via WhatsApp to underserved and displaced youth. It has rapidly emerged as one of the fastest-growing AI solutions for education and social good on the African continent.
In a mere three months since its launch, Rafiki AI has reached over 5,200 users, facilitating more than 54,000 message exchanges and answering nearly 25,000 career-related questions across 50 countries and five continents. The majority of its users are based in Nigeria, highlighting the critical demand for accessible and scalable career guidance tools within the continent.
The economic impact of Rafiki AI is substantial. With a typical career counseling session costing approximately $50 globally, Rafiki AI has already generated savings of over $260,000 for families and schools. Furthermore, if all 5,200 users successfully complete their career pathway plans, their combined income could potentially increase by an impressive $1.6 million, underscoring the profound economic benefits of scalable, digital career support.
A key driver of this real-world impact is the strategic partnership between KLCI and SEED Care & Support Foundation. Mrs. Olanrewaju Oniyitan, Founder and Executive Director of SEED, personally experienced the Rafiki AI platform and swiftly recognized its potential. She subsequently introduced it to school leaders within her network of affordable non-state schools. This collaboration has led to the transformation of 340 teachers and students following a single day of training for school leaders.
On May 9, 2025, SEED hosted a pivotal training session where 27 school owners received instruction on effectively deploying Rafiki AI in their respective institutions. Mustapha Lawal, Project Coordinator at KLCI, emphasized during the training the systemic challenges faced by many African students. He noted, “Unlike many developed countries with integrated career guidance systems, many African students often make critical education decisions in isolation—leading to course mismatches, missed JAMB requirements, and institutional transfers.”
