Qwiet AI Highlights AI Transparency and ‘AI Washing’ at Black Hat USA 2025

TLDR: At Black Hat USA 2025, Qwiet AI addressed the pervasive buzz around generative AI, emphasizing the critical need for transparency in product capabilities amidst widespread ‘AI Washing.’ The company, represented by Director of Marketing Ian Botbyl, underscored that the AI evolution is already here, urging for more live demonstrations and a focus on AI solutions that genuinely enhance productivity and informed decision-making.

Las Vegas, NV – As the cybersecurity community converged at Black Hat USA 2025, Qwiet AI made a significant presence from booth #4308 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The company’s participation focused on the burgeoning landscape of artificial intelligence within cybersecurity, particularly addressing the growing demand for transparency and the prevalence of ‘AI Washing’ in the industry.

Ian Botbyl, Qwiet AI’s Director of Marketing, shared insights from the event in an interview with The Fast Mode. Botbyl noted that the most exciting and discussed topics revolved around the underlying mechanisms of Generative AI tools. He observed that ‘every vendor had some solution that involved an LLM on the backend doing something,’ leading to varied perspectives on what truly constituted groundbreaking innovation versus what was merely adding to an increasingly crowded market.

Attendees at Black Hat USA 2025 showed keen interest in product capabilities and understanding the tangible value that solutions like Qwiet AI bring to developers for making more secure decisions. Botbyl highlighted two critical takeaways from the conference:

Firstly, ‘AI Washing (vaporware) is very real.’ Many vendors’ marketing claims did not align with their actual product demonstrations, with some opting for ‘fancy sizzle reels’ instead of live product showcases. This underscored a clear need for more live demos to build trust and for marketing and sales personnel to possess a foundational understanding of their products to instill confidence in offerings.

Secondly, Botbyl asserted that ‘Everyone has an AI offering now; the AI evolution is not coming, but here.’ This indicates a significant shift where AI is no longer a futuristic concept but an integral part of current cybersecurity solutions. Qwiet AI believes that successful AI experiences will be those that genuinely ‘improve productivity and help individuals make more informed decisions,’ distinguishing them from technologies making ‘bold claims about replacing FTEs.’

The discussions at Black Hat USA 2025, including those involving Qwiet AI, reinforced the cybersecurity industry’s deep engagement with AI, from generating YARA rules using Large Language Models (LLMs) to broader discussions on agentic AI security and LLM-based exploits. The event served as a platform for companies like Qwiet AI to advocate for genuine innovation and verifiable AI capabilities in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
