Protiviti Study Reveals Strong Data Confidence Among High AI Maturity Organizations

TLDR: A new report by global consulting firm Protiviti indicates that 69% of organizations with high AI maturity express strong confidence in their data capabilities. This confidence is a critical factor in achieving successful AI outcomes and a high return on AI investments.

MENLO PARK, Calif. – August 19, 2025 – A recent study by global consulting firm Protiviti highlights a significant correlation between an organization’s AI maturity and its confidence in data capabilities. The firm’s second report in its AI Pulse Survey series, titled ‘From Data Confusion to AI Confidence,’ reveals that a substantial 69% of organizations at a high level of AI maturity are ‘very confident’ in their data capabilities. This finding underscores the foundational role of robust data practices in driving AI success and maximizing return on investment (ROI).

The report emphasizes that effective data governance, coupled with advanced data engineering, comprehensive analytics, and responsible data usage training, are pivotal in advancing AI maturity. As organizations progress through the five phases of AI maturity outlined in the survey, their data practices become increasingly structured and intentional. For instance, at Stage 5, the highest level of AI maturity, 74% of organizations conduct regular data audits, a figure more than double the 36% observed at Stage 1. Furthermore, 57% of these highly mature organizations have implemented robust data management policies and standards, a significant leap from just 24% at the initial stage.

The survey also draws a clear link between data confidence and financial returns from AI investments. Among organizations where the ROI on AI investments has ‘significantly exceeded expectations,’ a remarkable 97% report high confidence in their ability to acquire, organize, and comprehend the data necessary to support their AI objectives. Correspondingly, 76% of organizations at Stage 5 AI maturity overwhelmingly report exceeding their AI ROI expectations.
