President Marcos Encourages Filipinos to Harness AI for Progress and Responsible Use

TLDR: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has urged Filipinos to regularly integrate artificial intelligence into their daily lives, emphasizing that consistent interaction enhances AI’s accuracy and helpfulness. This push is part of a broader digitalization agenda, which includes the launch of ‘TunAI,’ an AI-powered application designed to combat fake news and promote digital literacy, while also cautioning against the misuse of AI for malicious purposes.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recently called upon Filipinos to actively embrace and utilize artificial intelligence (AI), highlighting its potential as a transformative tool for national development and personal productivity. In his latest video blog, released on Sunday, July 20, 2025, President Marcos underscored that the more frequently AI is used, the more adept it becomes at providing precise and beneficial responses. He stated, “AI learns. The more you use it, the better it will answer you. So use it more and more, so that AI gets used to you. After a while, you will see that AI’s answers to your questions will get better and better.”

The President enumerated several practical applications of AI that Filipinos can readily adopt, such as obtaining directions, inquiring about local activities, or even seeking assistance in drafting speeches. To illustrate the creative potential of AI, his vlog featured an AI-generated segment depicting the President in a Malacañang office, transitioning into a rock concert setting, showcasing Filipino ingenuity in harnessing technology.

However, President Marcos also issued a stern warning against the nefarious use of AI. He lamented that despite its positive developments, the technology is being exploited by malicious actors for scams, the propagation of fake news, and the spread of misinformation, leading to many Filipinos falling victim. He emphasized that technology should simplify lives, curb corruption, expedite processes, and enhance education, healthcare, and trade, ultimately strengthening Filipino families, not destroying them.

This call to embrace AI responsibly is a cornerstone of the Marcos administration’s broader digitalization agenda, aligning with efforts to expand internet connectivity across the Philippines and make public services more accessible through online platforms and smart applications. A significant initiative in this regard is ‘TunAI,’ an AI-powered application launched last May. Embedded within a popular social media platform, TunAI is designed to help users identify fake news, verify facts, and guide them toward trustworthy information sources.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is also actively developing and training a homegrown Filipino AI engine. This system aims to assist citizens with tasks such as gathering information and reporting crimes, notably being capable of communicating in local dialects familiar to users. These initiatives underscore the Marcos administration’s commitment to empowering Filipinos with AI tools that enhance learning, creativity, and everyday problem-solving, while simultaneously promoting vigilance against digital misuse. The success of TunAI, in particular, reflects the administration’s vision for a digitally empowered, transparent, and citizen-focused ‘Bagong Pilipinas’.
