TLDR: Union Minister Piyush Goyal stated that Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents significant opportunities and is expected to lead to an increase in job opportunities across India. He encouraged decision-makers to adopt AI tools like ChatGPT, emphasizing the need for transparency and validation of AI-generated inputs.
New Delhi, September 2, 2025 – India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, has expressed a strong optimistic outlook on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the nation’s economic future, asserting that the technology will ultimately lead to an increase in job opportunities. Speaking at an industry chamber event on Tuesday, Goyal highlighted AI as a “huge opportunity” for the country.
Minister Goyal revealed a directive issued to his own office, stating, “I have told my office, every person at decision-making levels, has to have the latest version of AI, ChatGPT or whatever else is available, on their phones or their laptops.” This initiative underscores a proactive approach to integrating AI into governmental functions. However, he coupled this with a crucial condition: “any input they make should have at the bottom, that it has been generated or prepared with the support of AI… and has been validated for.” This emphasizes a commitment to transparency, accountability, and human oversight in the use of AI.
Addressing potential concerns about job displacement, Goyal acknowledged that “there will be naysayers who write about the negative impact of technologies like AI.” He urged against being deterred by such views, stressing that “AI will have its role… There will be the problem of unethical use of AI, so human intervention will be required to address that.” He firmly believes that “This is only going to increase jobs… and Indians are agile and very smart.. So I look upon this as a great opportunity; we must adopt it.”

He reiterated India’s readiness to embrace new technologies, positioning the country to leverage AI for growth and development.
