Permiso Enhances Identity Security Platform with Comprehensive AI Protection for Users, Builders, and Autonomous Agents

TLDR: Permiso Security has expanded its real-time identity platform to offer comprehensive protection for AI identities, encompassing AI users, builders, and autonomous agents. This update integrates AI security as a core component of identity security, providing enterprises with unified visibility, exposure management, and behavioral threat detection across all digital identities.

PALO ALTO, Calif. – September 30, 2025 – Permiso Security, a leader in real-time identity security, today announced a significant expansion of its platform to include robust protection for artificial intelligence identities. This strategic enhancement aims to address the rapidly growing security gaps associated with AI adoption in enterprises, providing a unified solution for securing AI users, AI builders, and autonomous AI agents.

The updated Permiso platform is designed to treat AI security not as a separate challenge, but as an integral extension of existing identity security frameworks. This approach offers enterprises a single, comprehensive platform to safeguard all digital identities against evolving cyber threats, including human, non-human, vendor, and now AI identities.

Permiso categorizes AI identities into three distinct groups to ensure granular visibility and control:

AI Users: Employees and stakeholders who interact with generative AI services, such as ChatGPT.

AI Builders: Developers and teams responsible for creating, modifying, or deploying AI models and applications.

AI Agents: Autonomous AI systems that operate within organizational environments.

A key differentiator of Permiso’s expanded solution is its focus on runtime intelligence. Unlike traditional methods that primarily track static information like licensing, which often captures only a fraction of actual AI activity, Permiso’s platform discovers real-time AI usage patterns. This allows security teams to understand not just who has AI access, but precisely how it’s being used, where it’s connected, and what critical systems and data it’s accessing.

Jason Martin, co-founder and co-CEO of Permiso, highlighted the current challenges faced by organizations. “Today, enterprises are having to cobble together visibility around their AI initiatives and are unable to obtain a clear understanding of who in their organization is using AI, who is building AI, what AI agents are being deployed, and, importantly, what those AI users, builders, and agents are doing,” Martin stated. He emphasized that by extending Permiso’s Identity Visibility and Intelligence Platform (IVIP), Identity Security Posture Management (ISPM), and Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR) capabilities to cover AI, enterprises can gain unified visibility, exposure management, and behavioral threat detection.

Ian Ahl, Chief Technology Officer at Permiso, reinforced this perspective, stating, “AI isn’t a new silo, it’s an identity problem. Permiso finds every AI identity, human and nonhuman. We map exposures and use runtime detection on live activity so you can adopt AI without widening the attack surface.”

The new AI identity security features integrate seamlessly with existing Permiso deployments, requiring no additional infrastructure. These features include the ability to discover, analyze, and defend against various threats such as tracking shadow AI usage by employees, notifying of unauthorized AI service access through federated authentication, and identifying AI agents operating with excessive permissions. This comprehensive approach helps organizations shrink mean time to detection (MTTD) and mean time to response (MTTR) in environments where incidents can unfold rapidly.
