PALO ALTO, Calif. – September 11, 2025 – Penguin Ai, a pioneering healthcare artificial intelligence company, today announced it has secured $29.7 million in venture funding. This substantial capital injection, which includes a $25 million Series A round spearheaded by Greycroft, is earmarked to tackle the pervasive $1 trillion administrative inefficiencies within the healthcare sector.
The funding round saw participation from a diverse group of investors, including UPMC Enterprises, SemperVirens, Snowflake Ventures, Watershed Ventures, and Horizon Mutual Holdings, Inc., the parent company of New Jersey’s largest and oldest health insurer. Further support came from original lead seed investors ManchesterStory and Overwater Ventures, as well as the California Health Care Foundation, Matt Kozlov (formerly of Techstars and now at Multiball Capital), Canvas Prime, Plug and Play, and individual angels such as John Santelli (former CIO of UnitedHealthcare) and Eric Larsen (formerly of the Advisory Board). The newly acquired funds will be channeled into expanding hiring, accelerating product development, and scaling deployments with both payers and providers.
Penguin Ai’s core mission is to empower healthcare organizations to streamline high-volume administrative workflows, drastically cut operational expenses, and enhance overall efficiency through its cutting-edge generative AI technologies. The company’s flagship platform is designed as a healthcare-native solution, featuring digital workers and agents that automate end-to-end processes.
Fawad Butt, founder and CEO of Penguin Ai, and a former chief data officer at prominent healthcare entities like UnitedHealthcare, Kaiser Permanente, and Optum, emphasized the urgency of the problem. “The healthcare industry is plagued by inefficiencies and is spending billions on administrative tasks annually,” Butt stated. “By harnessing the power of generative AI, we can significantly reduce these costs, improve accuracy, and unburden valuable resources so payers and providers can focus on delivering quality care to patients.”
The platform addresses critical pain points such as Prior Authorization, aiming to slash turnaround times and boost accuracy while ensuring compliance. It also targets Billing and Claims Adjudication to accelerate processing and reduce manual reviews, Medical Coding for improved accuracy and revenue integrity, and Denials Management to automate appeals and recover revenue faster. Penguin Ai boasts out-of-the-box integration with over 38 common healthcare systems, allowing organizations to enhance their existing infrastructure without extensive overhauls.
Harsha Kapre, director of Snowflake Ventures, commented on the strategic investment: “Penguin Ai is redefining how healthcare payers and providers use data and AI to cut costs, reduce friction, and improve outcomes. Our investment brings their specialized applications directly into the Snowflake AI Data Cloud, giving healthcare organizations the confidence to embrace AI and transform their operations.”
