OutSystems Unveils AI-Powered Mentor for Comprehensive Software Development Lifecycle Automation

TLDR: OutSystems has announced the general availability of Mentor, an AI-powered digital assistant designed to revolutionize the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Mentor, a first-of-its-kind AI digital worker, leverages generative AI and low-code to enable rapid application generation from natural language prompts, automate development tasks, and enhance application quality and governance.

OutSystems, a global leader in software innovation, has officially announced the general availability of OutSystems Mentor, an advanced AI-powered digital assistant poised to transform the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Following a successful Early Access Program, Mentor is now available on the OutSystems Developer Cloud (ODC), positioning the company at the forefront of AI-powered low-code development.

Mentor operates as a pioneering AI digital worker, capable of generating complete applications from simple prompts or detailed requirements documents. Its core functionality extends beyond initial generation to encompass the full SDLC, including iteration, validation, and maintenance of existing applications. This is achieved through a unique agentic AI architecture that orchestrates over ten distinct agents, collaborating to produce high-quality, compliant applications from natural language inputs.

Key benefits highlighted by OutSystems include significant time savings, accelerated business alignment, and a substantial reduction in the time required to develop new digital experiences. Elton Escaleira, Product & Service Manager at Bosch, commented, “OutSystems Mentor and AI Agent Builder give us the productivity that pure GenAI tools promise while also addressing governance concerns and avoiding the vulnerabilities they may introduce.”

Paulo Rosado, CEO and Founder of OutSystems, emphasized Mentor’s transformative potential, stating, “Mentor reimagines the software development lifecycle, bringing AI and low-code together to not only speed development, but also enhance the quality, explainability, and governability of software solutions.” He added that strong results from the Early Access Program underscore Mentor’s value as the safest and fastest way for organizations to build the next generation of enterprise applications.

Early adopters have already demonstrated Mentor’s impact. For instance, a biotechnology company utilized Mentor to generate a functional prototype of an employee management application with 15 screens in just 20 minutes, a task that would typically take a skilled developer several days. This drastically reduced initial prototyping time, enabling faster alignment on business requirements. Other notable early adopters include Thermo Fisher and KPMG.

Mentor is designed to empower developers rather than replace them, freeing up teams to focus on high-impact, strategic work by automating tedious and repetitive tasks. It integrates AI into every stage of the SDLC, from initial creation and refinement to monitoring. The tool also supports application maintenance through AI-driven code reviews, ensuring high standards for development, security, performance, architecture, and long-term maintainability. By leveraging enterprise data, Mentor helps build relevant applications and reduces the risk of AI hallucinations, ensuring robust governance.
