MUSCAT, Oman – The Generative Artificial Intelligence Hackathon, officially named ‘Mulham,’ has successfully launched in Muscat, Oman, on Saturday, September 27, 2025. This significant event is scheduled to continue its innovative run until October 29, providing a platform for young minds to tackle real-world challenges using advanced AI technologies.
The hackathon’s inauguration was presided over by Rear Admiral Ali bin Abdullah al Shidi, Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), underscoring the strategic importance placed on technological advancement and national development. The initiative is a collaborative effort by the Academy of Strategic and Defence Studies, working alongside various public and private sector partners.
The core objective of the ‘Mulham’ hackathon is to ‘motivate young people to create creative technical solutions that address societal and economic issues.’ Participants are actively engaged in developing prototypes of digital projects across critical domains, including cybersecurity, education and learning, and customer service. This focus ensures that the solutions generated are not only innovative but also directly applicable to improving the quality of life and economic efficiency within the Sultanate.
This competition is meticulously organized within the broader framework of the Academy of Strategic and Defence Studies’ plans and programmes, directly supporting the ambitious goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040. Furthermore, it serves as a preparatory event for this year’s national symposium, which is themed ‘Public-Private Partnership to Generate Job Opportunities,’ highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering a dynamic job market through innovation.
Key industry players are providing substantial support for the hackathon, including Omantel, the National Bank of Oman, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), and the Programming Academy. Their involvement underscores the strong public-private collaboration driving this initiative.
