Odoo Unveils AI App at Odoo Experience 2025, Empowering Australian SMEs for a Productivity Surge

TLDR: Odoo has launched its new AI App at Odoo Experience 2025, embedding artificial intelligence directly into its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) workflows. This development is particularly significant for Australian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), aiming to bridge the existing AI adoption gap and drive a national productivity leap. The AI App, integrated into Odoo 19, offers features like intelligent automation, data enrichment, and contextual decision-making, addressing common business pain points and enhancing operational efficiency.

At the recent Odoo Experience 2025 event, Odoo officially unveiled its groundbreaking AI App, a strategic move to embed artificial intelligence capabilities directly into its comprehensive Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms. This launch is poised to significantly impact Australian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), offering a crucial pathway to close the current AI adoption gap and stimulate a much-needed national productivity surge.

Australia’s SME sector, while forming the backbone of the economy, has historically lagged behind larger enterprises in adopting advanced technologies like AI. Reports indicate that while large firms have broadly embraced AI, with many already using or planning investments, AI adoption among SMEs stands at approximately one-third. Although 60% of SMEs plan to adopt AI by 2026, many remain in the early stages, facing persistent obstacles such as skills shortages, funding limitations, and complex, disconnected systems.

Odoo’s new AI App, integrated into Odoo 19, directly addresses these challenges by offering a cost-effective, integrated AI suite that avoids the need for businesses to rebuild their existing systems from scratch. The app expands upon existing AI capabilities introduced in Odoo 17 (such as OCR and content generation) and Odoo 18.3, centralizing and enhancing AI functionalities through features like AI Agents, AI Fields, AI Drafting, and Server Actions. These tools are designed to automate workflows, enrich data quality, and facilitate contextual decision-making across various business functions, including finance, sales, HR, inventory, manufacturing, and marketing.

Kelian Buitendijk, director at Odoo Australia, emphasizes that this shift reflects a rethinking of technology by business owners who seek flexibility and improved efficiency at a reduced cost, rather than rigid IT contracts or costly integrations. He notes that many companies previously relied on standalone systems connected by ‘complicated bridges’ that often led to technical debt. Modern ERP systems, like Odoo, offer a modular approach, combining various functions under one roof with shared data to improve visibility, accelerate decisions, and reduce manual processes through enhanced automations.

The integration of AI in Odoo 19 is expected to reshape how Australian companies manage operations, data, and decision-making. It transforms ERP systems from mere automation tools into intelligent decision enablers. For instance, in finance, Odoo 19 ERP can reduce human error by automatically categorizing expenses, generating smart forecasts, and strengthening compliance. This enables businesses to operate with agility, reduce waste, and make decisions with greater confidence.

Furthermore, Havi Technology, an insights provider, highlights its role in tailoring Odoo AI solutions for local Australian needs, including GST compliance, Xero integration, and predictive operations. This localized approach aims to ensure that Australian businesses can effectively leverage Odoo’s AI capabilities to meet specific market demands and regulatory requirements.

The Australian government has also recognized the importance of AI adoption, investing in initiatives like the National Artificial Intelligence Centre and AI Adopt programs to boost SME readiness. Reports underscore AI’s potential to significantly improve productivity in the services sector, which accounts for 90% of the workforce, including SMEs, but has historically shown poor productivity growth.

In essence, the Odoo AI App represents not just automation but a potential operational transformation for Australian SMEs, moving from digitized compliance to real-time sales predictions and smarter, data-driven strategies for growth. This timely launch aligns with both policy and market pressures, positioning Odoo as a key enabler for Australia’s next SME productivity leap.
