This innovative framework, developed by Visa, aims to revolutionize ‘Agentic Commerce’ by enabling merchants to securely recognize and process transactions initiated by trusted AI agents acting on behalf of consumers. The announcement positions Nuvei at the forefront of this evolving digital payment landscape.
The Trusted Agent Protocol is a cornerstone of Visa Intelligent Commerce (VIC), a comprehensive global initiative by Visa to establish secure engagement standards for AI-powered agents in the payment ecosystem. Built on open technical standards, including HTTP Message Signatures (RFC 9421), the protocol is designed to differentiate between legitimate AI-driven activities and potentially malicious automation. This ensures that transactions conducted by AI agents are both secure and transparent, requiring minimal adjustments to existing merchant checkout flows.
Nuvei’s collaboration with Visa extends to its participation in the inaugural ‘Agent Enabler pilot’ program. Through this pilot, Nuvei is actively contributing to the refinement and scaling of the Trusted Agent Protocol, ensuring that acquirers can effectively support agent-driven transactions globally.
