Nigerian Police Service Commission to Deploy AI for Enhanced Ethical Policing and Complaint Resolution

TLDR: The Police Service Commission (PSC) in Nigeria is partnering with the Nigerian Employers Consultative Association (NECA) to launch an AI-powered digital system for complaint response and case management. This initiative aims to bolster ethical policing, protect employers’ rights, and combat corruption within the force, marking a significant step towards modernizing law enforcement in the country.

Abuja, Nigeria – In a landmark move towards fostering transparency and accountability within the nation’s law enforcement, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced its collaboration with the Nigerian Employers Consultative Association (NECA) to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled digital complaint response and case management system. This strategic partnership is designed to safeguard employers’ rights, champion ethical conduct among police officers, and elevate the overall quality of policing in Nigeria.

During a recent meeting at the PSC headquarters in Abuja, the Chairman of the Commission, Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, underscored the importance of this initiative. He welcomed NECA’s commitment to assisting the Commission in producing high-caliber police officers who are well-equipped to navigate Nigeria’s evolving security landscape. Argungu stated, ‘Your ideas will help us grow positive policing and we are happy you are here to assist us.’

Mr. Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, the Director General of NECA, articulated the association’s motivation for forging this alliance. Representing the voice of the private sector, NECA seeks to aid the PSC in managing complaints effectively to ensure integrity and significantly reduce instances of extortion and corruption within the police system. ‘NECA is the voice of the private sector, we want to assist the Commission in handling the treatment of complaints to ensure integrity and reduce the incidence of extortion and corruption in the system,’ Oyerinde affirmed, highlighting their role in collaborating with strategic government agencies.

This development aligns with broader efforts to integrate advanced technology into Nigerian policing. The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has been proactively preparing its officers for modern law enforcement challenges, including hosting the first-ever Artificial Intelligence Foundation Course in August 2025. This five-day program, held at the National Institute of Police Studies (NIPS) in Abuja, trained 45 senior instructors from police training colleges across the country. The course’s objective was to position the NPF at the forefront of ethical, data-driven smart policing for enhanced public safety and operational effectiveness.
