New York City played host to a pivotal gathering of senior data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) executives at the CDO Magazine Executive Boardroom Dinner on September 10, 2025. Held at the esteemed Club A Steakhouse, the event focused on the critical challenge of moving AI initiatives beyond the experimental phase to deliver concrete business impact across various enterprise functions, from back-office operations to customer-facing experiences.
The centerpiece of the evening was a dynamic panel discussion titled ‘From Experiment to Impact — Realizing AI Value on Internal and External Use Cases.’ The expert panelists delved into key strategies for successful AI implementation, particularly in customer-facing applications. Discussions highlighted the necessity of balancing rapid experimentation with stringent cost controls and a clear focus on time-to-value. Furthermore, the executives explored robust frameworks for scaling proofs-of-concept into full-fledged, trustworthy, and brand-aligned AI interactions.
Moderated by Jeff Burlin, Senior Director of Executive Engagement Programs at Twilio, the panel featured prominent industry leaders: Effie Kilmer, Director of Global Data Governance Product Growth & Partner GTM at Microsoft; Richard Martin, Senior Director of Strategy & Transformation for Data, Analytics & AI at PepsiCo; and Viktoriya Smith, Senior Vice President at Citi.
Richard Martin shared his positive experience, stating, ‘I had the pleasure of sitting on an executive discussion panel with two industry peers last night hosted by CDO Magazine. What a fun and rewarding experience. In addition to learning what’s working (and what’s not) across different industries, we were able to discuss important topics like how high-quality data paired with expert context engineering is key for AI enablement. The future is so bright in this space. It’s such a great time to be in it.’
Alex Golbin, Chief Technology Officer at Hudson Bay Capital Management, underscored the exciting potential of generative AI but cautioned that ‘the ‘boring’ labor intensive task’ of data preparation remains crucial. The panelists collectively stressed the importance of flexible data architectures to mitigate vendor lock-in and shared valuable lessons on deploying autonomous AI systems while meticulously measuring their impact and managing associated risks in both internal operations and external engagements.

Summing up the evening’s insights, Jeff Burlin remarked, ‘It’s clear that organizations are experiencing some exciting early wins that are delivering tangible value for the business in terms of efficiency gains, productivity, revenue generation, and customer satisfaction. However, a common thread for that success is in the initial investment required in a strong data foundation — completeness, quality, and context — in order to really unlock the potential of AI pilots and then scale successfully.’ The event was made possible through the partnership of Twilio.
