New Relic has unveiled its Fiscal Year 2025 Impact Report, showcasing key achievements across environmental sustainability, artificial intelligence governance, and global technology education. The report underscores the company’s commitment to responsible business practices and positive societal impact.
In environmental sustainability, New Relic has made substantial strides, receiving approval for its near-term science-based climate targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). These ambitious commitments align with the critical 1.5°C global warming pathway, necessitating significant cuts in Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions, including adjustments in business travel. Operationally, the company reported progress by migrating to AWS Graviton-based cloud instances, which resulted in a notable 37% reduction in emissions for the migrated workloads, alongside improvements in compute performance and efficiency.
Regarding artificial intelligence governance, New Relic has proactively launched a new compliance program in response to the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act, recognized as the world’s first comprehensive AI regulation. This program encompasses internal AI policies, robust implementation processes, and comprehensive educational resources, all designed to foster responsible innovation and ensure strict compliance with emerging AI regulations. The company’s data also indicates a significant trend in AI adoption, with a steady 30% quarter-over-quarter growth in the usage of its AI Monitoring solution over the last 12 months. This surge reflects the transition of AI from experimental phases to operational deployment, necessitating advanced observability capabilities beyond large language models. New Relic’s aggregated usage data reveals that ChatGPT, particularly newer versions like GPT-4o, dominates usage, while there’s a growing trend of developers creating custom models for use with GPT, signaling a move towards tailored AI solutions.
New Relic has also expanded its focus on global technology education. A key initiative is the partnership with GitHub Education and Platzi, which has provided millions of students across Latin America with access to over 80 free software tools and training programs. This collaboration aims to equip students and early-career technologists with practical experience in technology and software development platforms.
Ashan Willy, Chief Executive Officer of New Relic, commented on the company’s ethos, stating, ‘Positive impact and responsible business is at the core of how New Relic operates and develops its technology. In FY25, we took meaningful steps forward – gaining approval for our ambitious science-based climate targets, expanding access to our platform for millions of learners, and leading the way for ethical approaches to AI, to name just a few. It’s rewarding to see the impact our teams are making, and our continued efforts reflect our belief that growth and integrity must go hand in hand.’
