New Delhi Municipal Council Equips Thousands of Students with Advanced AI Skills

TLDR: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has launched comprehensive AI workshops for students in classes 9 to 12 across its 45 schools, aiming to educate over 28,000 students in AI fundamentals, generative AI applications in creative fields like motion graphics and music, and ethical AI use. This initiative is part of a broader curriculum blending modern technology with traditional learning.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has embarked on a significant educational initiative, introducing advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) workshops for thousands of its school students. This program, targeting students from Classes IX to XII across 45 NDMC schools, is designed to equip over 28,000 young learners with crucial AI skills, preparing them for a technology-driven future. While a specific workshop may have engaged 300 students, the broader initiative encompasses a much larger student body.

The workshops delve into AI fundamentals, exploring the functioning and significance of AI in daily life. A key focus is on generative AI applications, teaching students how to creatively utilize AI in motion graphics, photos, videos, and music. Furthermore, the curriculum incorporates practical applications of virtual reality (VR) and simulators, providing hands-on experience with immersive technologies. Emphasizing responsible technological integration, ethical considerations in AI are also a core component of the training.

Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Vice-Chairman of the NDMC, highlighted the inspiration behind these workshops, stating they are ‘inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Double AI’ (Artificial Intelligence and Aspirational India).’ Chahal further elaborated that these initiatives aim to foster holistic learning, AI education, and experiential learning while instilling cultural values among students. He also mentioned that students will be assessed, certified, and encouraged to showcase their AI projects, fostering innovation and practical application of their learned skills.

This AI training is part of the NDMC’s new academic session initiatives, themed ‘Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi’ (Development and Heritage). This comprehensive approach blends modern technological education with traditional learning, including activities like yoga, mantra chanting, and environmental education. To enhance academic tracking and support, the NDMC has also developed a Management Information System (MIS) for real-time monitoring of student performance, attendance, and health records, with full implementation expected by April 2025.
