MrBeast Raises Alarm Over AI’s Disruptive Potential for YouTube Creators

TLDR: Popular YouTuber MrBeast, also known as Jimmy Donaldson, has voiced significant concerns regarding the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and its potential to displace millions of content creators on platforms like YouTube. He highlighted the ‘scary times’ ahead as AI-generated videos become increasingly indistinguishable from human-made content. Donaldson’s apprehension comes amidst the release of advanced AI video tools and his own past experience with a controversial AI thumbnail generator.

YouTube’s most prominent figure, MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, has publicly expressed deep concern over the escalating capabilities of artificial intelligence and its looming threat to the livelihoods of millions of content creators. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Donaldson stated, ‘When AI videos are just as good as normal videos, I wonder what that will do to YouTube and how it will impact the millions of creators currently making content for a living… scary times.’ This statement, made around October 2025, has ignited widespread discussion within the creator community.

The rapid evolution of generative AI tools, such as OpenAI’s Sora, which can produce realistic videos from simple text prompts, is at the heart of MrBeast’s apprehension. These advancements raise critical questions about originality, copyright, and job security across creative industries, issues that have already led to industry actions in Hollywood and the video game sector. Even YouTube itself has integrated AI features, allowing creators to animate images, transform visual styles, and generate clips from podcasts.

MrBeast, who topped Forbes’ 2025 list of highest-earning creators with an estimated $85 million and a massive following of over 630 million across platforms, emphasizes that his concern extends beyond his personal brand. While his large-scale, authentic stunts may be difficult for AI to replicate, he worries about the countless smaller creators who rely on platforms like YouTube for their income. His influential voice carries significant weight in the creator economy.

This isn’t MrBeast’s first encounter with AI-related controversy. Earlier in 2025, he launched an AI tool through his analytics platform, Viewstats, designed to generate YouTube thumbnails. The initiative faced considerable backlash from other creators, who accused the tool of potentially copying existing designs and undermining human artists. In response to the criticism, MrBeast swiftly removed the tool, acknowledging that he ‘missed the mark’ and instead offered connections to human designers. This experience underscores the complex challenges and ethical considerations surrounding AI’s integration into content creation.
