Rabat, Morocco – The Kingdom of Morocco marked a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey by hosting its inaugural National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference on July 1st and 2nd, 2025. Held under the esteemed High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the landmark event convened over 2,000 participants, including a distinguished assembly of public and private sector stakeholders, national and international experts, representatives from international organizations, and Moroccan startups, at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) campus.
Organized by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, the conference was themed ‘An efficient and ethical AI strategy to serve our society.’ Its primary objective was to outline a comprehensive national strategy for sovereign AI, meticulously tailored to the specific needs of the Moroccan population and its strategic sectors, while aligning with the High Royal Guidelines. This initiative underscores Morocco’s ambition to leverage AI as a pivotal lever for sustainable development, digital sovereignty, and the modernization of the nation.
Throughout the two-day gathering, discussions spanned 13 critical thematic areas where AI is anticipated to exert the most transformative impact for Morocco. These included administrative reform and modernization, education and new learning methods, sports, healthcare and precision medicine, smart agriculture, and fisheries production. Other vital themes encompassed Industry X.0, national security and sovereignty, culture and creativity, media and democracy, international cooperation, governance, trust and ethics, innovation and startups, as as well as infrastructure and investment.
Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch emphasized the ‘collective will’ to integrate AI at the core of public policies, advocating for a strategy that is efficient, ethical, and inclusive, serving sustainable human development. Amal El Fallah-Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition, highlighted that AI is no longer a futuristic concept but a present reality already embedded in various sectors such as health, education, and banking, necessitating mastery and regulation.

The conference structure saw the first day dedicated to sector-specific technical sessions and demonstrations by innovative AI-driven startups, showcasing the burgeoning AI ecosystem within the Kingdom. The event culminated in the presentation of key recommendations, including the urgent development of a comprehensive national AI roadmap defining strategic priorities and ethical safeguards. Participants also called for the swift adoption of legislative texts to govern AI development and use, increased support for research and development through public-private partnerships, and the practical application of AI in vital social sectors. Furthermore, recommendations included targeted support for startups and SMEs to integrate AI solutions, strengthening international cooperation, establishing specialized research centers, and regularly organizing international AI events. This unprecedented national gathering in Rabat sets a clear roadmap for integrating AI into Moroccan society and its digital future, positioning the country as a credible and sovereign player in the global AI landscape.
