MongoDB Introduces AI-Enhanced Platform to Accelerate Enterprise Application Modernization and Reduce Technical Debt

The platform, launched at the MongoDB.local New York City event, is engineered to transform decades-old applications into modern, scalable, and adaptable services, thereby mitigating technical debt and fostering innovation.

Enterprises worldwide are increasingly burdened by legacy applications that, while critical to operations, are expensive to maintain, difficult to adapt to new use cases like generative AI, and often pose significant security and compliance risks. According to the Consortium for Information & Software Quality, the cost of technical debt in the U.S. alone, encompassing poor software quality, failures, lost developer time, and maintenance, is estimated at nearly $4 trillion. “Enterprises are increasingly grappling with the burden of complex legacy applications, constrained by rigid data foundations and outdated architectures that stifle innovation,” stated Rachel Stephens, Research Director at RedMonk.

MongoDB AMP addresses this critical issue by combining an AI-powered software platform, a proven delivery framework, and experienced AMP delivery engineers. This powerful fusion of tools, technique, and talent enables organizations to undertake full-stack modernization, moving beyond mere database migrations to comprehensive architectural transformations. Companies utilizing AMP have reported tasks like code transformation speeding up by 10 times or more, with overall modernization projects accelerating by two to three times. More specifically, the migration of simple code can be 50 to 60 times quicker, and small applications can be migrated 20 times faster to MongoDB. Furthermore, regression testing, a traditionally time-consuming process, has seen dramatic improvements, reducing from three days to just three hours with automated test generation.

Key clients such as IntellectAI, Lombard Odier, and Bendigo Bank have successfully leveraged MongoDB AMP. IntellectAI, a fintech firm, modernized its Wealth Management platform, leading to improved performance, reduced development cycle times, and the ability to unlock generative AI use cases. Deepak Dastrala, Chief Technology Officer at IntellectAI, commented, “Modernizing with MongoDB has transformed how we deliver value to our customers, freeing us from bottlenecks and accelerating the realization of our AI vision.” Switzerland’s Bank Lombard Odier & Co Ltd. cut migration testing times from three days to three hours, while Australia’s Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Ltd. reported a 90% reduction in development time for a core banking application migration.

Shilpa Kolhar, Senior Vice President of Application Modernization at MongoDB, emphasized the platform’s comprehensive approach: “Legacy applications are major blockers that are slowing innovation. Making the simplest change is extremely risky. The developers familiar with those old applications and the older stack are gone.” She added that AMP covers the entire lifecycle of modernization, combining AI-powered tools, methodologies, and expertise to rapidly transform legacy applications into modern, scalable services on MongoDB, achieving speeds up to 10 times faster than traditional methods.
