TLDR: The Ministry of Education has introduced five new, free Artificial Intelligence courses on the SWAYAM portal, aiming to democratize AI education across India. These courses, developed by IIT Madras, are accessible to students, professionals, and lifelong learners, requiring no prior coding knowledge and offering certification options.
In a significant move to bolster digital literacy and provide widespread access to quality Artificial Intelligence education, the Ministry of Education has announced the launch of five new, free AI courses on its SWAYAM portal. These programs are designed to cater to a broad audience, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, working professionals, and individuals keen on lifelong learning, with no prerequisites for prior AI knowledge or coding experience.
The courses are hosted on the SWAYAM Plus platform, an initiative operated by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). This collaboration ensures that the curriculum is robust and aligned with contemporary industry needs. The five specialized courses now available are:
1. AI in Physics: Explores the application of machine learning and neural networks to solve real-world physics problems.
2. AI in Chemistry: Introduces AI applications in chemistry, covering topics from molecular predictions to modeling chemical reactions.
3. AI in Accounting: Integrates traditional accounting principles with AI applications, focusing on automation and data analysis.
4. Cricket Analytics with AI: Teaches data analysis using real-life cricket statistics, incorporating data science and Python.
5. AI/ML using Python: A foundational course covering Python programming, statistics, linear algebra, optimization, and data visualization for AI and Machine Learning.
Each course is structured to provide hands-on learning through real datasets and case studies, with durations ranging from 25 to 45 hours. While enrollment and learning are entirely free, learners have the option to obtain a certificate by registering for and passing a proctored examination, for which a nominal fee applies. The courses are also aligned with the National Credit Framework (NCrF), allowing them to be taken as credit-eligible programs by universities.
