Microsoft is set to revolutionize enterprise operations with the introduction of a novel class of artificial intelligence agents, dubbed ‘agentic users,’ engineered to operate as independent entities within the corporate workforce. These advanced AI agents are designed to possess their own distinct identities, secure access to organizational systems and applications, and the capability to collaborate seamlessly with both human employees and other AI agents.
According to a Microsoft product roadmap document, these agents will be capable of a wide array of autonomous tasks, including attending meetings, drafting and editing documents, and engaging in communication through email and chat platforms. This initiative aims to integrate AI more deeply into daily business processes, allowing for enhanced productivity and automation.
Microsoft plans to make these ‘agentic users’ available for purchase through an ‘M365 Agent Store’ and discoverable within its Teams collaboration tools. Further documentation provided to M365 administrators reportedly mentions a new license, ‘A365,’ which licensing specialist Rich Gibbons suggests could refer to a product named ‘Agent 365.’ This A365 license will be assigned by administrators upon approval, and notably, no additional Microsoft 365 or Teams license will be required for these agents.
João Ferreira, a Microsoft MVP who has reportedly seen similar documentation, indicates that these agents will be equipped with their own email addresses, Teams accounts, entries in enterprise directories (such as Entra ID or Azure AD), and even a designated place on the organizational chart. Ferreira elaborated that these agents will be able to ‘participate in meetings, send and receive emails and chats, access enterprise data, and learn from interactions to improve over time.’

The debut of these AI agents is anticipated later in November, with speculation that Microsoft’s annual ‘Ignite’ conference, scheduled for next week, might serve as the platform for their official announcement. Microsoft is expected to launch a ‘targeted release’ of A365, accompanied by optimistic pronouncements regarding their potential to significantly boost productivity and profitability for businesses.
